Hey @coolsport00 - Sure. IR as more of a general item, but when getting into the weeds of it, understanding each component and what needs to talk to each other + the clean up process. Whilst I’ve had it run successfully in the past, it hasn’t been without a few issues through that process. The clean up left some residue as well, so I must have done something wrong there. To get started with some topics, two topics off the top of my head that I’d like some more in-depth help understanding are Instant Recovery and External Repositories (Data Domain, etc) and the de-dupe options and the use of them compared to a standard block repository. Something along those line perhaps? Thank you.

Why is my backup repository folder size much greater than disk capacity used?

As per above, the storage savings can be quite significant. It isn’t just inside regular backup jobs that this is beneficial using ReFS/XFS but you will also find that it also works extremely well with Backup Copy jobs, wherever a duplicate file might end up, it will map there. But definitely keep in mind when moving between file systems, the rehydration will inflate and if you don’t have the space available, that could be disasterous. I use both ReFS and XFS in prod now - For one customer we saw >1.8PB on 230TB of RAW storage on ReFS. So it is actually really quite cool.

Hey Ben! Congrats on taking the role - can’t wait to see what you’ll have planned for the A/NZ group! I think a good 50/50 mix of community and SE sessions would be cool, but I know the community session side is sometimes a bit harder to fill. I’d be keen to see a session on “Design Strategies to meet the 3-2-1-1-0 rule” or “planning for long term retention/archival” Michael Paul did a great SureBackup deep dive this week for the UK VUG. Best of luck, and hope to meet up at an event!Thanks, Keiran.

GFS by multiple jobs?

About ReFS, I don’t know much about it, and sure I’ll look into it, thanks. Some quick considerations around ReFS (While I love the technology and use it for all my Repos) The block cloning is only affective with Synthetic Fulls and incremental backups, where if you had to restore a VM for any reason, the blocks will not longer be seen the same with CBT being reset, along with the vmID changing - so if you were to restore and then start backing up the restore VM, you will end up creating a fresh full and take up the equivilent amount of storage. Just worth keeping in mind, if you end up in that situation. Otherwise, it is a great solution. - Make sure you read the Release notes before applying the Windows updates for it. :)
