How to implement my backup goals - home/personal data?

Hi @alphaXplorer -Welcome to the Community. I think Chris is spot on for what NAS to use. Many in the tech community tend to utilize Synology NAS.As far as Backup software...well, there is not 1 solution out there, that I’m aware of, able to backup compute devices, as well as tablets & phones. Tablets and phones will need to be done however you’re currently doing so. For your Windows and eventual MAC devices, Veeam can be used to do this via Agents. You can also centrally manage them with Veeam Backup & Replication Community (free) Edition. You are allotted a total of “10 instances” with the free edition, so you’ll be able to take care of your compute.You can connect your NAS, as a a Veeam Repository, to your VBR server, and send all your backup data to your NAS that way. BTW, you are allowed to install Veeam on a workstation. So, you can utilize one of your Windows devices to do dual duty as your backup (Veeam) server as well.Here is the Guide for Veeam Agents and managing thr

Resize Multipath Volumes Used as a Veeam Repository in Linux OS

@william.berhorst -I found a different way to resize your Volume without the risk of removing/re-adding your device partition. You still go into parted, but instead do a resizepart operation. The underlying Volume (device) partition needs to be resized, along with the devices and multipath before the additional space shows in the filesystem & OS. Not sure why I was able to do the operation initially without the need to do this. Anyway, the process is as follows:sudo multipath -l  ← list all devices the multipath volume usessudo bash -c ‘echo 1 > /sys/block/sdX/device/rescan’ ← do this for each sdX devicesudo multipathd -k’resize map <volume-repo-name>’ ← do on volume, not partitionlsblk | grep disk ← run this just to verify the additional space has been added & is seensudo parted /dev/mapper/<volume-repo> ← go into the parted utilityprint ← when prompted, choose to “Fix” (see screenshot below)resizepart 1  ← when prompted for size to increase to, look at size par

Failed to connect to Veeam

Hi @Manuel2022 -Did you logon with a user? You should be able to logon with anyone in the local Administrators group (i.e. a local admin or domain admins).But, after install, you have to wait for the Veeam Backup Service to start. See if it is started, then attempt to logon. Make sure to logon with the username format of: DOMAIN\username or HOSTNAME\username, then provide the password.

Ok, if you’re logged into the Veeam server as that Admin user, just click the ‘Use Windows Session Authentication’ option. Then click Connect and you should get logged in.The only other reason, aside from user issues, why you might not be able to log in is if you changed the connection port from the default 9392 as shown in the logon window.

Hi @nikolai.stewart -Are you wanting to back up guest files (file shares or directories?) initially, then copy those to tape? Did you create a file share backup job to do so?

But it not allow me to backup multiple server files at once in one backup. Are you saying the File Backup Job operation doesn’t allow you to backup multiple file servers? You first add the file share, and I’ll assume an SMB Share:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/file_share_backup_job.html?ver=120Then, you create a Backup Job and during the File Backup wizard, for all File Shares (or Servers) you added, you should  be able to add multiple folders among different File Shares (or Servers).https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/file_share_backup_job_files_and_folders.html?ver=120Are you saying you’re not able to do this?

Not heard anything “official” Geoff. I think one may be coming out...if I had to guess...around VeeamON time since it’s only a month away. What I’m waiting for are updates to Malware Detection.

Veeam + Linux

Yes you can, but please be aware of Limitations when you use a setup like you’re wanting. Main issue will be backup job speed, because when you use the same Linux server as both Repository as well as Proxy, you’re limited to NBD (network) mode as your only supported transport mode.
