As we discussed here earlier, there are 3 transport modes to get data from vSphere for backup.These modes are also available for restore. By default, first mode (order: SAN, Hotadd, NBD) that meet requirements, is selected for restore. For SAN direct mode, a requirement is thick provisioned disk type. You can select each available type (thin, thick eager and lazy zeroed) in restore wizard.My recommendation: If you want to leverage SAN direct mode, choose Thick eager zeroed! This option is much faster than lazy zeroed!I tested these settings in different environments. For example, I saw differences of67 % (150MB/sec for eager vs. 100MB/sec for lazy), 93 % (226MB/sec for eager vs. 16MB/sec for lazy).

Understanding Kubernetes Networking can be a challenge. A couple of years ago I was tasked to setup a distributed Minio instance running in containers for use with a Veeam SOBR S3 compatible capacity tier. At first, I thought about doing it on Kubernetes but very quickly realized that I was in over my head. I had no previous experience with Kubernetes and I could not just “wing it”. Among other things the networking piece I found especially hard to understand.In the end I created a Docker Swarm cluster which had a much easier almost “plug and play” overlay network and while that did the trick, I understood that simplicity also meant rigidity.Kubernetes follows the age old *nix (Unix, Linux BSDs and so on) philosophy of creating small separate entities that when brought together can scale into something very complex. It is new in v11, but I do not have much detailed information about it.When you create or edit a backup job, you can enable High priority.The idea is to use this option to make clear this is an important job. So it can be started before less important jobs are started. It is not about job performance, it is about start time. Makes perfect sense to me! Under certain circumstances this feature will make job scheduling easier.At first this seems to be available for Backup and Replication jobs.

Hi, Has any one had the below error on the new CDP Proxy function on B&R v11?Source Proxy Replicator error: encryption; Cannot decrypt message, possible due mismatching key.I can see that the disk are replicating, but now and then it shows the error? Note this is a new CDP job 

As some of you might already know, with V11 the creation process of GFS points within backup copy jobs will be completely renewed.As I understood it, the new method will be exactily the same then, as it is already for primary backups.So instead of forever forward merging and meanwhile somehow dropping a GFS point, we will see a forward chain with synthetic fulls. The latter will then be flagged with the GFS flags.This will in my opinion be remarkable for two reasons:We’ve seen problems with GFS backup copy jobs not adhering to the SOBR placement policy. During one support case I was driving we narrowed it down to the legacy way GFS points are generated in these jobs. SOBR placement policy disregarded for GFS - Veeam R&D Forums. Hi Everyone, I have just moved over to Kasten on loan from Veeam to really focus on the Technical Community and Content. I thought I would ask the Veeam community about your experiences so far into the learning journey of Kubernetes and Cloud Native technologies. I have been on this learning curve for the past 2 years and there is still quite a bit to tackle and as always in technology you can go as far and as wide on all areas of learning. I have started to document this for the blog my building out an environment in my home lab. I want to see how you are all navigating this? Today I coming here for a simple post about compression Veeam B&R. So, I take a short VM Linux running an Active Directory for this.  Below you can see a full backup with a compression set up as Optional. And now you can see the same full backup with compression option on Extreme. How you can see the duration time was decrease in almost 20 minutes when I compress backup on extreme option. The target of backup on this example is an offsite repository. If the answer is obvious and I don’t see it: sorry for my question!In a large customer setup, SureBackup is managed by script (cusomized: https://www.virtualtothecore.com/can-test-1000-vms-veeam-surebackup/). So VMs are dynamically added by a Application Group. For a long time, we put just one VM into the group. SureBackup jobs failed when this VM failed - most often because of timeout. Now we increased to two VMs per run. Now I see job is skipping second VM when first VM fails. My question: Is this a designed behavior with Application Groups? Did not find the answer in the helpcenter. 

Finally v11 is launched, but I will not stop to talk about small features and improvements For today, I found a modern (app) feature. It is about instant virtual disk recovery. Which is not new in v11, but it is new to restore a disk as a First Class Disk (FCD) in vSphere. A FCD - also called Improved Virtual Disk (IVD) - is a new disk type for modern - containerized - applications. Hello everybody!I'd just like to know… What do you all think about this:   Almost 1 hour to backup a VM to a completely offsite reposittory.Obs.: It was across the Internet, not in some private network.

First time sharing, so feedback is much appreciated, but please excuse my code if it’s not up to par with those who have a lot more experience with Powershell than I. I recently had a client who -- for legal purposes -- needed to restore the same folder from two month’s worth of backups. Running 61 File Level Restores in the GUI seemed like a nightmare, so he opened a case asking if there was an easier way. Unfortunately, through the GUI there’s really not an easier way, but this sounded like a perfect scenario for leveraging some Veeam PowerShell cmdlets. I soon discovered that the FLR cmdlets don’t have functionality that supports a ‘Copy To’ feature like you’d get in the GUI, so I had to leverage what Veeam cmdlets we do have and then add in some good old basic PowerShell commands to then pull the data from the mount point (C:\VeeamFLR\ by default) and move it to the target, then loop through n-number of times based on the user input.Here’s what I came up wit
