I performed a full backup on one of the Severs via Veeam Standalone backup agent. I want to test if that “full backup” is an accurate one.So, what I would like to do it restore that “full backup” on a different VM or a Windows Server. So I can compare. Is it possible?
Hi, team I need some advice. We have a client that we need to do a quarterly full backup for. We would like to run an active full to a USB attached drive that will be rotated out each quarter. Each USB drive will be designated for a specific quarter (i.e. USB Quarter 1, Quarter 2, etc). This job will only run once per quarter and we would like each run to be a full backup. What is the best way to accomplish this in VBR 11a?
Hello,Everything is in the title, it’s the first time i’m using Veeam. So, i have a VM on ESXi A, i want to setup an incremental backup of this VM to ESXI B that has a LUN assigned to it (the datastore is created). But i have no idea how to do it. When i create a backup job, when i get to “storage”, i can only chose the default backup repository, which is on the local hard drive where Veeam is installed...I don’t know how to create a new repository that will point to my “backup-LUN” datastore on ESXI B …Can you help me ?Thank you in advance,Regards
Good morning I wanted information.I have a vmware environment and with veaam I backup the VMs.I wanted to know how I can remove an esx host from veeam licenses and thus freeing 2 sockets assign the license to another esx host. attached in file 1 I want to revoke socket for 18.104.22.168 and I want to assign it to another esx host that is managed by the same vcenter. kind regards
Hi, I would like to confirm if the Snapshot-based retention keep the full backup and only delete the incremental snapshots according to the retention policy (years, days, etc.). I need to do an incremental backup job like VBR, to keep only 2 months of incrementals. Thanks, Omar De Souza.
Dears, I have Veeam backup & replication connected to Veeam service provider console, and I would like to customize a user on VSPC to be allowed to run and stop specific jobs on VBR and not all the jobs created.Because my client wants to run some jobs manually and not periodically and I do not want him to have access to all the jobs created on VBR. Regards.
Hello everyone, wouldn’t it be nice if we could see the duration of every backup job inside the Veeam Service Provider Console?I am pretty sure I could see this kind of information before in the following view, when the tool was still called Veeam Availability Console.I guess this is a feature that has been removed. What do you think? I'm wondering if I'm alone with this, or if it's a widespread problem.Through the day I often get logged out of the Community or R&D forums, although I select keep logged in or remember me. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all and sometimes it only takes minutes or happens during writing a post. It's not related to a specific browser or device, nor do I delete cookies.Does anyone here experience the same?
Hi Everyone, I have been documenting the learning curve and journey and continued on to exploring what managed Kubernetes offerings there are from the public clouds, this is not the end of my content creation on this topic but it covers the main 3 (at least in my region) Getting Started with Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)Getting Started with Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) - Azure CLI Getting Started with Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) - Azure PowerShell Getting Started with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) I will keep adding additional links as I get them published, as always open to feedback here. Expect to see some OpenShift being covered and VMware Tanzu options soon enough.
This is more of a processing issue but . . . I have one VBR system that processes some rather large file servers. We’re going to be setting up Scale Out Repo to Wasabi into an object locking bucket. When Veeam locally merges the latest incremental into a new full, does it push the complete newly created full out to the bucket or is there some magic that happens where Veeam is only updating the current full that’s sitting out in the cloud. People with small internet pipes want to know. With a small domain server it’s no big deal to push 20gig but when it’s 25TB…..I’m also going to assume since Veeam is in control of the object locking and retention, I won’t have to figure out when things will be unlocked and the magical merge is going to happen. Thanks ahead of time.
Hi everybody!I would like to share will all of you a little story,For almost a year, we were doing this "none written" rule, and it's being adopted by the whole department:"READ-ONLY MONDAYS"Tired of deploying things and changing production things on Mondays, tired after the weekend, and many people coming back to the office with tons of issues, after working from home on Fridays, we took this decision so we were able to fix and take care of the "after the weekend" issues, not adding extra failure points to the day.Now we are thinking of improving this rule to Mondays and Fridays! What do you think?Do you have any "none written" rules you would like to share? Many thanks.
Hello friends, Can Veeam perform a file level backup by specific file name prefix? If a file starts with dept1 across all servers, then Backup only those files to repository X.If a file starts with dept2 across all servers, then Backup only those files to repository Y. Our retention policy require us to keep specific files for a short period of time while other files for a longer period of time. There are several file servers with TBs of data to backup this way. Is this even possible? Any feed backup would be appreciated. Thanks, Derek
Hey! Fancied trying a different fun Friday this week, what’s your favourite cloud storage? This could be a public hyperscaler or an object storage specialist vendor. With Veeam having such a list of supported vendors it’d be great to see the ones you’re all most enthusiastic about working with, bonus points for why!
I’m looking at my Veeam B&R and all of my VMs show backed up and they even show restore points. You can see from the attached pic that my VM has 10 restore points. I’ve even done a restore from one of the restore points and it is in fact the VM from 5 days ago. Now, in Veeam ONE, when I look at my protected VMs report, I see zero VMs as protected no matter what time frame I select. My “other” reports that I run look accurate, but my protected VM report literally shows all of my VMs as unprotected, meaning no backups or no restore points for the RPO. It sure seems like I’m missing something. Only just now looking at reporting so hoping for some guidance here. Thank you
A lot of us are really busy and while it is nice to read the “create your own Kubernetes” posts, sometimes you just don’t have time to do so. If you just want to jump in and learn to swim as @Rick Vanover said in the last Weekly recap 20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wn7m1F3lvI then there are some ready to go free clusters that you can play around with. My favorite is the O’reilly Katacoda kubernetes playgroud https://www.katacoda.com/courses/kubernetes/playground but many big cloud providers will give you some free time to evaluate as well. A nice full list has also been composed by a github user name salaboy and learnk8s with various contributors here https://github.com/learnk8s/free-kubernetes Kubernetes is very much a hands on technology. The more you practice the easier it gets. Good luck and most importantly have fun!!
I’m sure it’s been covered here somewhat but @michaelcade and friends over at Kasten have launched learning.kasten.io. With 3 labs to start. Each will get you a badge and possibly a KubeCon pass. While they aren’t super in depth definitely worth the time!
Hi, team I have a weird one for you. Have you ever seen a copyjob fail due to a normal backup running at the same time? I have been running into an issue where a copyjob is running and then a scheduled backup starts while the copyjob is running. When this happens, the copyjob will fail and throw the error: ”Source restore point is locked by another job ” My understanding is that this should not happen. I did notice that the last time it happened, there was an incremental to full backup file merge happening. I am not sure if that may be the cause in this case, but I do not believe that is always what’s happening when I see this error. The copyjob is set to Immediate with a 24x7 schedule. This server is running VBR v.11
