Veeam Backup & Replication 10a Patch 20201202 released

I’ve just read about the release of Cumulative Patch 20201202 for VBR 10a in the forums and wanted to share it here: https://www.veeam.com/kb4050I think the support for vSphere 7.0 U1 and Windows 20H2 is what many people were waiting for.

Return expired tapesto free state

I have a suggestion/issue for/with the VEEAM tape handling…In the definition of a tape pool you can select that tapes from free state are transferred to this pool if required.But when tapes expire in a type pool, then the tapes keep in this tape pool in expired state and are not returned to free state.In the worst case the expired tape accumulate in this pool when there a less tapes needed as before. So the tapes in free state decreases continually and you have to manually transfer the expired tapes in the pools to free state.I think it would be useful when VEEAM does this by itself. Thenn all tape pools can get free tapes and all free tapes are shown in the correct state...What do you think?

Backup duration in VSPC

Hello everyone,wouldn’t it be nice if we could see the duration of every backup job inside the Veeam Service Provider Console?I am pretty sure I could see this kind of information before in the following view, when the tool was still called Veeam Availability Console.I guess this is a feature that has been removed.What do you think? Veeam Backup for Office 365 V5 Show stopping bug

Morning Guys, So like a lot of you we’ve been playing with Veeam Backup for Office 365 v5 and deploying the updates on our services and for our customers, we’re catching a bug fairly frequently that is having major consequences. The Veeam Repository isn’t able to upgrade, which is a requirement for the subsequent backups to run, causing immediate backup issues. We’ve engaged with Veeam support and been informed that there’s a hotfix, but that hotfix has also caused issues it appears and jobs are still failing to run. Just wanted to advise prior to everyone upgrading their productions, it might be worth waiting for a few more days… Thanks!

For this reason, we will discuss "What is a Failover Plan on VBR, How is it created?"What is the Failover Plan? What is the size of a vSphere Changed Block Tracking block (CBT)

An interesting question arose some time ago. A customer changed permissions of files on a Windows file-server VM. Changes were replicated using DFS. So far so good, but the amount of data that was processed at next incremental backup of target VM was even more than a full backup. Because incremental backup is based on VMware Changed Block Tracking (CBT) feature, it was suddenly interesting to know whats the size of a CBT block. After some recherche I did not find an answer to this question. But I did find a great script that calculates CBT incremental backup size. Based on this script I created the following script to list the amount and the size of blocks changed in between of two snapshots. Outcome in shortWhen using the script – described in detail later – to show CBT blocks I was surprised. I thought there will be a number of fix-sized blocks that are marked to be backed up. HTML Veeam console, do we really need it?

New exciting features have been announced for upcoming version 11: CDP, Linux Proxy, etc…Customers quite often ask when a HTML Veeam console will be availbale...Once VBR has been upgraded, latest console is immediately available to be used and no need to install/update the console in every admin’s computer…Do we really need a HTML console for our daily duties?Maybe we don’t need it but it would be a nice feature to have...What do you think?

Backup CIFS share to Cloud Connect

Currently Cloud Connect doesn’t support direct backup CIFS share to this repository. Currently my workaround is;CIFS share > robo copy local > Veeam agent backup to Cloud Connect Is there an alternative? And will CIFS share backup will be supported in the near future directly to an Cloud Connect repository?

Slow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts

Because VMware snapshots is always a topic for backups, I want to share my latest experiences with VM-snapshots on NFS. I had to troubleshoot a problem with system time within a VMware vSphere VM. During backup VM freezes for more than 30 seconds. When this happens, system time in VM also stops and resets to current time after the freeze. And this behavior causes massive problems in the application-layer. During troubleshooting we found a very slow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts.EnvironmentIn this setup, we were running:HPE SimpliVity Hyper-converged infrastructure running in current Version. Notice: SimpliVity uses NFS v3 to present volumes to their hosts. VMware vSphere 6.7 in quite current version.
