Adobe Flash End of Life

Afternoon, Whilst not directly related to Veeam it’s worth reminding those of you using VMWare in your environments that if you’re using a version of vSphere that requires Flash, you have until the 12th January before Adobe trigger the kill switch preventing Flash from running, permanently. This could also cause you pains if you have plugins that either haven’t been upgraded to HTML5 yet or don’t have feature parity with their Flash counterparts. If you’re not on a version of vSphere that supports HTML5 or you haven’t got all the Flash client features you’re either running an unsupported version or you’re extremely out of date on your patching and haven’t got full feature parity yet. Full information here

[mini-blog-series: What (else) is new in v11] Restore Wizard

This is the first post in my new blog series about small improvements and/or features in v11.The first improvement is a tiny one. Experienced User will not recognize it and for new users it will make it easier to proceed. It is about the item-restore wizard. More detailed: the last page of the wizard, before the item-browser starts. Here is a screenshot of the new page:Do someone recognize the modification?The word Finish was replaced by the word Browse!I still can remember when I started the wizard the first time, and I see Finish at a point I expected to select single files. I re-started the wizard and was afraid what's coming next. Did anyone else feel the same way? No one will ever go through this horror again.

Hello,It is known how to make Replication configurations on VBR software, but there are not many configurations for failover plans. For this reason, we will discuss "What is a Failover Plan on VBR, How is it created?"What is the Failover Plan? If you have many VMs running interconnected applications, you need to define them as a group and make a failover plan.In the failover plan, you set the order in which the VMs should be opened and the latency times for the VMs. Set Delay (latency) time is a period of time that Veeam Backup & Replication must wait before starting the process of the next virtual machine on the list. It helps to ensure that some VMs, such as the DNS server, are already running when other VMs start. Latency can be set for every VM in a failover plan, except for the last VM on the list.If the virtual machine is closed in the VM group you created, you can manually start the relevant failover plan. What is the size of a vSphere Changed Block Tracking block (CBT)

An interesting question arose some time ago. A customer changed permissions of files on a Windows file-server VM. Changes were replicated using DFS. So far so good, but the amount of data that was processed at next incremental backup of target VM was even more than a full backup. Because incremental backup is based on VMware Changed Block Tracking (CBT) feature, it was suddenly interesting to know whats the size of a CBT block. After some recherche I did not find an answer to this question. But I did find a great script that calculates CBT incremental backup size. Based on this script I created the following script to list the amount and the size of blocks changed in between of two snapshots. Outcome in shortWhen using the script – described in detail later – to show CBT blocks I was surprised. I thought there will be a number of fix-sized blocks that are marked to be backed up. But – assumed, script works correct – there isn’t a fixed size of CBT blocks. There seems to be a wide varia

Slow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts

Because VMware snapshots is always a topic for backups, I want to share my latest experiences with VM-snapshots on NFS. I had to troubleshoot a problem with system time within a VMware vSphere VM. During backup VM freezes for more than 30 seconds. When this happens, system time in VM also stops and resets to current time after the freeze. And this behavior causes massive problems in the application-layer. During troubleshooting we found a very slow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts.EnvironmentIn this setup, we were running:HPE SimpliVity Hyper-converged infrastructure running in current Version. Notice: SimpliVity uses NFS v3 to present volumes to their hosts. VMware vSphere 6.7 in quite current version.
