Hello Community! I am in the middle of modifying my Backup/DR environment → adding infrastructure, upgrading VBR servers, etc, etc...basically a refresh cycle as it were. One of my VBR Servers is used for DR purposes using Veeam Replication. I created a new server for it on the newest server OS (2022) and did a Configuration Backup migration. This was the first time I performed a DB migration and was pleasantly surprised by the ease of this task. Well done Veeam! As for one my other VBR server, I’m not wanting to do a DB migration. I’m going to recreate most everything from scratch for various reasons. But, out of just under 30 jobs I have on this server, I do want to retain 7 of them. Sadly, as some of you know based off a Hub post from a yr or so ago by @shawnl :..exporting Jobs isn’t really possible. I really would like a Backup/Copy Job export function in the Console personally. Anybody else concur this would be a useful feature add? But, I digress. My main purpose here is to provi
Backup Eagle logoIn my first blog post, I reviewed what Backup Eagle was and how it can monitor your environment. I also went through the installation process as well. Part 1 can be found here –Monitoring with Backup Eagle – Part 1The company graciously granted me an NFR license to test within my homelab – Backup Eagle by Schmitz RZ Consult GmbH.In this post, I am going to cover the Administration Console, including things like –Installing a license file Adding servers for monitoring Dashboards ReportsBackup Eagle is used for Backup Monitoring, Reporting, and Audit & Compliance.Backup Eagle – What it is used forLaunching the console is very straightforward; double-click the desktop icon “BACKUP EAGLE Administration Client,” which launches the console. You can see the console when it first opens below (keeping in mind I already have data showing – a new installation will not have any data until you add servers).Dashboard in the Administration ConsoleAfter you get into the dashboard
Hi! Thinking about Polish M365 users i prepared short article about Veeam Backup for MS365. https://inleo.pl/blog/veeam-backup-for-ms365-czyli-gdzie-zaczyna-sie-twoja-odpowiedzialnosc/Here is English summary. Microsoft’s Shared Responsibility Model, in the simplest words, says “Your data – your matter.”Many people aren’t aware of that and think they are protected against data loss. They are partially right, but only in case of internal Microsoft infrastructure failures. Microsoft replicates its regions between each other to maintain the continuity of the services. But replication and backup are different things. If your file gets damaged, it will be replicated in its current state, and you will not be able to restore it. If you delete a file accidentally, and 93 days are left (the time of MS Data retention), you will not be able to restore it. So how do you cope with it?The solution is Veeam Backup for M365, a great tool that allows you to protect data stored in M365, Hybrid, or On-Pre
Hi Folks, I was just forced to watch for the first time an AI generated tutorial/presentation. This was not Veeam training but I decided to send out this feedback just in case anyone at Veeam is thinking about jumping on this bandwagon. All of this hype about Chat/AI etc crashed miserably in my eyes after watching this content. The AI generated lady doing the tutorial had less personality and sincerity than RD2 in Star wars (reminder RD2 could only beep and not speak). The phoney AI generated smile would have been better placed in the film Aliens on the monsters that emerged from people’s stomachs. Then there were the pronunciation errors. Living in Toronto I hear all sorts of different pronunciations in English but they normally add some spice to the discussion. Italian, French, Chinese etc native speakers all have different pronunciations and if anything they add flavour to the conversation. Machine AI however is horrendous. It will go along for a bit perfectly but then blurt out somet

Hi Everyone, More and more of us are spending our days wandering around various CLIs. There are times when you need to jump out into a file explorer in the precise location where your pwd command locates you.on windows simply type start .on a Mac doopen .and on Linux (I will demo this since I am in my basement on one of my stashed Linux machines hidden away :) xdg-open .So here I am in my Pictures directory I would like to see the thumbnails quickly so here it goes and Voila! If the xdg-open command is too long for you go ahead and create an alias in your .bashrc file
Today’s #VMCE2020 #DailyQuiz walkthrough is ready. Are you using virtual labs? What about virtual labs in a different site than your backup server? How did you handle it?Try this question and more at https://rasmushaslund.com/vmce-practice-exam/
I case you haven’t seen. There are currently two ongoing surveys from Veeam; one about the Help Center and the documentations, the other one about the livestreams (Industry Insights, TechBytes). So in case you want to share some feedback on those topics, here’s your chance:Veeam Help Center: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JFBXD2HVeeam Livestreams: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VeeamStream22A Sources:https://forums.veeam.com/post461204.html#p461204
My Backup Server’s C: Drive is getting tight and I want to relocate Veeams’s MS SQL Database files from their default location on C:\Program Files\… to a larger Data drive. Now, whilst I can find articles about relocating the whole Veeam config to a different SQL Server, I can find nothing on moving the database mdf/ldf within the same Server. Is it simply a case ofstopping the Veeam services, detaching the databases in SQL Server Management Studio, moving or copying the files to the new location, attaching the database from their new location?Has anyone had any experience of this? How successful was it? Are there any pitfalls to avoid?
Hi everyone, For a possible upcoming project on the Veeam Community Hub I am looking for someone who has a feeling with Automation. While I cannot share much about the project just yet, I am looking for someone that would have time to assist me and probably someone else in organizing events, blogs, content etc. Please reach out to me with an DM if you are interested
Today’s #VMCE2020 #DailyQuiz walkthrough is ready. Have you used the Veeam Extract utility? GUI? Command line? Windows or linux? Can it extract from VBK? VRB? VIB? How did you get the files back to your hypervisor environment?Try this question and more at https://rasmushaslund.com/vmce-practice-exam/
One of the products I spend a lot of time working with is Veeam ONE. If you are unfamiliar, Veeam ONE provides data protection monitoring for all Veeam operations. After implementing Veeam ONE, customers gain real-time monitoring, issue resolution and reporting capabilities that help with analysis and decision making. As companies drive innovation, they are transforming their data center, not only running applications traditionally, but also utilizing the cloud to take advantage of the many benefits it has to offer. I have been working more and more in the public cloud, whether it be utilizing object storage to store my backup data or getting more familiar with running workloads and resources there. Veeam ONE is essential for any installation because you gain visibility into your backups, the infrastructure and how machines are running. Veeam ONE was built for Veeam Backup & Replication, so as businesses are moving workloads to the cloud, or storing data in object storage, ONE is g
In this demo I illustrate how you too can utilize the Pure Storage platform to provide rapid recovery and near-zero replication for your Veeam repositories. This lab consists of 2 Pure arrays, 2 vSphere clusters and a single VCenter. Though in this lab we could use other means to provide recovery, say through vSphere, this setup up was used to simply illustrate an easy to use and efficient DR strategy from Production to a DR cluster. Utilizing, Veeam. In this lab I built 2 Veeam servers. The first holds the Veeam Backup Server, proxy, and primary repository. The second runs the Veeam Disaster Recovery (VDRO) server and is the remote repository. In this lab – I do not utilize VDRO for recovery – that will come in a later post.Normally, in a Veeam scenario like this there would be 2 Veeam jobs providing restores and the local and remote sites. The first would be the primary backup job to the repository local to the production site. The second, would be what is called a backup copy job from
Hi Folks, One topic that I don’t think has been addressed or discussed is VeeamON in relation to all of our many duties and responsibilities. How do you fit it in? How do you deal with the extra stress levels? VeeamON was a success and thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended but we would be kidding ourselves if we thought that it did not add extra pressures in our daily lives. First of all some of us might have to convince the bosses of this world that a trip to VeeamON is not, as the British would say just a “Jolly” i.e. vacation have fun only party. Yes we have fun but there is a lot of intense activity and knowledge transfer back and forth. I personally come out of VeeamON with my head exploding with new ideas and initiatives that I have gained from the sessions but even more from simple in person one on one conversations. Then there is the fact that no one is taking away the day job. Some of the folks there were having to simultaneously work during the conference or after hours. I
Hi Folks, It will be a great honour and huge pleasure to have a chat with Mumshad Mannambeth from Kodekloud. I found all the Kubernetes certifications to be very challenging exams. Kodekloud’s courses are excellent and the practice exams prepared me for what was going to come. All of the Linux Foundation exams (except for the entry level KCNA) are hands on from the command line. There are time restraints and you have to solve real problems that can occur in production. The experience was like dealing with multiple priority 1 emergencies one after the other. The key is learning the material but also putting the kubectl commands to muscle memory. Of course keeping your cool is a huge priority. I hope to find out a lot of interesting details from Mumshad about how he created Kodekloud but also get some tips on what is coming and what are the hot topics in the Devops education world.
Today’s #VMCE2020 #DailyQuiz walkthrough is ready. Is your company 3-2-1 compliant? What do you consider as two different media types? One could argue at lot of options is “disk” in the end, but is HDD one media type and SSD a different media type? What if it is two different physical servers running Windows, is that two different media types?Try this question and more at https://rasmushaslund.com/vmce-practice-exam/
I have been a Veeam Vanguard for five years now and was fortunate enough to have attended the VeeamON 2017 event in New Orleans, and it was fantastic. Great sessions, lots of networking and meeting more of the Veeam folks as well as Vanguards.Being a Vanguard is a real honour, and many people ask me when they see my Veeam Vanguard jacket or shirt - What is Veeam? My answer is a typical one - it is backup software for your infrastructure for now and the future, leading to a conversation around technology, backups, and many other things. This year's event is back in Las Vegas in the hybrid mode with in-person and virtual attendees. It will be the first event since 2019 in Miami that will be back to live attendance which is a great thing. In the last couple of years, with the COVID pandemic, the switch to all virtual has left many people feeling disconnected, including me, so getting back to being able to speak to people and share technology stories will be great. One other great benefi
I know, this topic does not fit that well here, but today is Pi day! As I once studied mathematics, I am still very interested in these topics. Because this day is celebrated all over the world with funny activities and jokes, I hope some of you can get some fun out of it. At least it is a interesting topic at some cocktail parties See some jokes here:https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/entertainment/g35447831/pi-day-jokes/?slide=1Direct examples:What did pi say when someone asked if it could explain what Pi Day was again? "I don't want to repeat myself." Did you know that 3.14% of sailors are Pi-rates?
