Veeam 100 Summit Recap - Prague 2023

I’d like to first thank Rick Vanover, Madalina Cristil, Nikola Pejková, and everyone at Veeam for their efforts and support leading into my second Veeam 100 Summit. It’s a HUGE undertaking that requires many levels of coordination. This was my second time attending the event in person. It was an honour to attend such a prestigious event for the second time and meet many fellow Vanguards, Legends and MVPs in person.  It is amazing how being at an event and being able to speak to others of the same mindset makes you feel great.  As for the host city of Prague, it never fails.Day 1 included a Welcome Reception hosted by Object First.A big thanks to Kevin Allan and Probax for sponsoring our Go Kart event earlier in the day! WEBSITE DEFACED THEN SAVED BY VEEAM KASTEN!!!

This is a small-scale amateur emulation of a hacker’s website defacing followed by a Kasten restore.I have created a small static website with Nginx deployed in Kubernetes. The Geoff Burke Propaganda website is designed to boast a positive image of the individual, hard working and healthy living and to inspire Management to make the right decision at salary review time.A group of malicious hackers gained access to the website and replaced the content with completely false information and quite obviously fake photos. Run a veeam lab in the cloud

I was thinking about building a lab at home to play, test and learn certain topics. But as my free time is very limited and I didn't want to ruin our power costs, I came to the idea to run a lab in the cloud.Advantages:low entry costs: you pay what you use/need flexible/scalable: resources are only a few clicks away ability to create different scenarios: offsite, DR, ... new technologies = more knowledgeDisadvantages:long term costs: as long as you're using/reserving resources you need to pay for themBeing a VMware guy I've looked for ways to deploy a vSphere environment or at least an ESXi host, but unfortunately the costs were much to high. Windows scheduled tasks get problematic slower over time

The following post is not directly related to backup. I hope it is helpful anyway.At a customers backup server a very strange behavior was observed. After a few days without problems, scheduled tasks never seem to get finished. So a current running – never ending – task prevents the next run from starting. A reboot of the server resolved the problem – for a few days.SolutionAfter a research I found out, scheduled tasks get started with a lower priority than interactively started tasks. See my scheduled PowerShell script in screenshot here.Normally this is not a big deal. It does not matter when tasks like reports last longer than manually started. Nevertheless they should at least finish.The solution is to rise the priority of scheduled tasks. Unfortunately this cannot simply be set in the GUI. It can be done in a few steps, I list here.Start Windows Task Scheduler, right-click your task and select Export… and save XML file to a temporary location. Edit XML file with an editor of your

VB365: Important patch released for v6a

Just two weeks after the release of Veeam 365 version 6a, Veeam has released the first cumulative patch P20220825 (build 6.1.0.254). This patch fixes two issues which have been discovered in the 6a GA release. While, according to Veeam, those issues only affect less then 1% of the v6a users, it’s still recommended to install the patch. A backup of Security groups, Distribution groups, M365 groups, and specific users may complete with the warning: Nothing to process When this occurs no restore point is created for such objects.Note: Depending on the job configuration, the job may complete with a Success status, and the problem may occur unseen Under certain conditions, a backup job that includes SharePoint, OneDrive, or Microsoft Teams objects may run longer than expected, and the processing of lists may complete with the warning: Failed to analyze list changes. Linux and Windows, happily ever after, who would have thought

I am old enough to remember the intense wars between Windows and Linux users in the late 90’s.I actually had a dream that I woke up many many years in the future, circa 2100 where both OS’s had merged and life was wonderful. Well it is 2023, the world is still crazy BUT… today I got Terminator and Remmina running on Windows 11 via WSL2, and what's more with a shortcut!!! I am back on a windows laptop due to corporate stuff. Updating VBR to 12.2 via VSPC automation

For those of you that either work for service providers or leverage a VSPC enabled Veeam Cloud Connect one of the options is to leverage VSPC to automate the upgrade of one or more Veeam Backup & Replication to the latest version. This is a great use case for a distributed organizations with multiple VBRs.If you are a end customer you will need to work with your service provider to gain access to VSPC for this process.Once you login navigate to Computers and Backup Servers. Once you select your VBR(s) you can choose Manage Updates\Upgrade Server.In the first step of the wizard I recommend that you keep the default of downloading directly from a Veeam server. Do make sure that any and all servers have at least 3x the ISO size free on the system disk to allow for download and working space. As of VSPC 8.1 Veeam will allow for saving credentials for future upgrade use but at least for this version you still have to actively provide credentials that the management agent can use to int
