Linux and Windows, happily ever after, who would have thought

I am old enough to remember the intense wars between Windows and Linux users in the late 90’s.I actually had a dream that I woke up many many years in the future, circa 2100 where both OS’s had merged and life was wonderful. Well it is 2023, the world is still crazy BUT… today I got Terminator and Remmina running on Windows 11 via WSL2, and what's more with a shortcut!!! I am back on a windows laptop due to corporate stuff. I don’t miss the MAC to be honest, It felt like it was a half Windows half Linux (or BSD) Frankenstein but hey that is just personal taste so to each their own.How far has the world come though!!Terminator is my favorite terminal program and Remmina for RDP well, I just like it (don’t save your passwords in there though). In your Ubuntu shell type sudo apt install terminator -ysudo apt install remmina -yFirst see if it can run (some complaints about the config but I will figure those out later) Terminator is backand now for Remmina:RemminaSome verbose anger there ba

They are partially right, but only in case of internal Microsoft infrastructure failures. Microsoft replicates its regions between each other to maintain the continuity of the services. But replication and backup are different things. If your file gets damaged, it will be replicated in its current state, and you will not be able to restore it. If you delete a file accidentally, and 93 days are left (the time of MS Data retention), you will not be able to restore it. VeeamON 2023 - Backups Premier Event

 I have been a Veeam Vanguard for six years and Veeam Legend for just over a year and was fortunate enough to have attended the VeeamON 2017 event in New Orleans and VeeamON 2022 in Las Vegas, and it was fantastic.  Great sessions, lots of networking and meeting more of the Veeam folks and Vanguards/Legends.Being a Vanguard is a real honour, and many people ask me when they see my Veeam Vanguard jacket or shirt - What is Veeam?  My answer is a typical one - it is backup software for your infrastructure for now and the future which then leads to a conversation around technology, backups, and many other things.This year's event in Miami looks to build on previous events like New Orleans, Chicago, and Las Vegas.Attending VeeamON is one of the best events if you want to learn more about backup and what Veeam is all about. Hours in the CLI but sometimes you need to break out? A quick solution to beeam you out

Hi Everyone, More and more of us are spending our days wandering around various CLIs. There are times when you need to jump out into a file explorer in the precise location where your pwd command locates you.on windows simply type start .on a Mac doopen .and on Linux (I will demo this since I am in my basement on one of my stashed Linux machines hidden away :) xdg-open .So here I am in my Pictures directory I would like to see the thumbnails quickly so here it goes  and Voila!   If the xdg-open command is too long for you go ahead and create an alias in your .bashrc file

Remember to always use Logic and Common Sense when faced with problems and not just backup issues!

Hi Folks, I wasted a lot of time in my life doing dumb things. Luckily a remain young in spirit and continue to do dumb things even now. Like troubleshooting an ignition process on Flatcar when the issue was staring me in the face. When dealing with failures and errors be it in backup or anything else try the “metaphor” method in order to help you solve the problem. For me it was that services were not starting when booting the immutable OS. Permission denied came up in the journalctl output but it made no sense since that part of the filesystem was chmod with the right access. Then I checked the location and the files were there with the correct names but… there size was zero. I checked the ignition file creation and all looked fine. I struggled until it hit me when on my walk and passing by a location that I used to frequent quite often.. the beer store. If you are in line up to buy beer and you have brought your empty bottles to cash in on the recycling refund.. you can’t just take

If you want to learn Kubernetes go no further, mark the date December 6th!

Hi Folks, It will be a great honour and huge pleasure to have a chat with Mumshad Mannambeth from Kodekloud. I found all the Kubernetes certifications to be very challenging exams. Kodekloud’s courses are excellent and the practice exams prepared me for what was going to come. All of the Linux Foundation exams (except for the entry level KCNA) are hands on from the command line. There are time restraints and you have to solve real problems that can occur in production. The experience was like dealing with multiple priority 1 emergencies one after the other. The key is learning the material but also putting the kubectl commands to muscle memory. Of course keeping your cool is a huge priority. I hope to find out a lot of interesting details from Mumshad about how he created Kodekloud but also get some tips on what is coming and what are the hot topics in the Devops education world.
