Next Venture - vSphere 8 book possibly

Well today I had a discussion with Packt Publishing about the potential for writing a book on vSphere 8. So, this will be on top of my current Veeam books and branches into virtualization, mainly vSphere that I also know.If there is anyone out there that has thought about writing or collaborating on a book reach out to me as I am still debating on doing this one solo. Even if you have just topics that you would like to see covered would be a great help. 😁More to come on this possible new adventure.

Veeam Legend Renewal for 2023

I was lucky enough to be renewed in the first intake of 2023 Legends this year and completed a blog post about it. Anyone have issues with Object Storage with Billions of Gets/Puts/Lists of small byte files from v12?

I am soliciting feedback from the community and Vanguards in Slack about an issue we are seeing so wanted to get feedback here also.Scenario - we have a customer using v12 with latest patches sending data to one of our DCs with Hitachi HCP Cloud Scale cluster which is very large. They are sending over 20PB of data to us.Object Lock is turned on for some of the buckets and we are seeing billions of gets/puts/list commands which is causing havoc on the cluster worker nodes for HCPCS.The client has configured their jobs with the default block size of 1MB and we were thinking to change that to 4MB, but it would not make sense for 106-byte files. That is the sizing of the files we are seeing the issue on for three buckets of which 2 of them are Windows servers and one is Linux.Any thoughts or has anyone run in to this before? I am working with Veeam and Hitachi together as well but if this rings a bell for anyone your input would be great.Thanks.

VeeamON 2023 - Event Review

I have been a Veeam Vanguard for six years and Veeam Legend for just over a year and was fortunate enough to have attended the VeeamON 2017 event in New Orleans and VeeamON 2022 in Las Vegas, which was fantastic. Being a Vanguard is a real honour, and many people ask me when they see my Veeam Vanguard jacket or shirt - What is Veeam? How to Update VMware ESXi v8 – Update 1 with USB NIC Fling

VMware vSphere logoRecently VMware released Update 1 for both VMware vCenter and ESXi. I successfully upgraded my vCenter but had to wait on the ESXi hosts until the VMware USB NIC Fling was updated to be compatible with Update 1. It is now updated and can be downloaded from here – VMware USB NIC FlingI downloaded the fling and the Update1 ZIP file from the VMware site that I could run on the CLI of each host after enabling SSH. So I connected to my hosts via the Web UI, logged in and enabled SSH. I then used Mobaxterm to connect to each of my hosts.The steps at a high level to upgrade are as follows –Remove the current USB Fling driver from each host Reboot the host to complete the VIB removal Enable SSH again on each host Run the CLI command to process the Update1 ZIP file on each host Reboot each host to ensure Update 1 is applied Enable SSH again on each host Install the USB NIC Fling for Update 1 Reboot each host to ensure the drivers are loaded Check the Web UI to ensure the USB

Mastering Veeam Backup & Replication v12 (Third Edition) - PUBLISHED!

Monitoring Veeam Backup with Backup Eagle

Monitoring with Backup Eagle I was recently introduced to a product requiring me to do a PoC to determine if it was a viable monitoring option for my company. I was granted an NFR license to test within my HomeLab for a product named - Backup Eagle by Schmitz RZ Consult GmbH.I was curious about how the Backup Eagle product works compared to other monitoring software. Intel Optane + vExpert = Awesome!

I know this is not Veeam related but I am also part of the vExpert program with VMware and had the chance to get some Intel Optane drives through the program, so I wrote a blog on how I got them set up and some initial testing done.
