Hi everybody!Im writing this question more like as curiosity and to re-think in my home lab, I've been using a HP 360 Gen8 with 128GB Ram and 2TB SSD with vsphere 7 to host my full home lab: 3 hosts Vsphere cluster, TrueNas for NAS & NFS storage, and pfsense for routing and firewalling, and a Windows Server 2016 with Veeam B&R.Now Im thinking in something more “electricity friendly” , but I would love to read some setups and ideas from all of you, and maybe mixing them up a bit we can get with the SUPER HOME LAB!thnx!read you in the comments!

Hi Folks,It came to my mind long time ago this question, and my answer, but last night after chatting with a friend of mine, the topic came out to the table, so here it comes...What do you miss from your Veeam B&R?And my first answer would be, a Linux Based Appliance, getting rid of the Windows Based Installation at all.I've been "struggling" with this many times, usually people that doesn't want to have a Windows Machine (most of the time, they are full Linux / Unix Infra), or can’t afford a Windows Server License.What do you think? Home Lab upgrade!Hi Folks, recently I wanted to «upgrade» my home lab, and I was thinking the best way to have an affordable, low consumption usable home lab for a ESXi Cluster, nothing fancy, just to be able to deploy a couple of little VMS, play with HA, DRS, shared storage and so on.I started checking out the Intel NUCs, but then I realized that it comes «empty», so it becomes costly at the end.Then, what about HPE Gen 8-9 Servers, «the wife would kill me»They are noisy, expensive and consumes tons of electricity!So, looking over the hardware I have, I looked into my Workstation, a Lenovo P320 which it has 64GB of ram, more than sufficient to run a Nested lab, but I wanted something more realistic, with wires and lights, you know, Im a hardware and wires lover!I kept the Workstation as base Server, Planning tu run there the base or foundational vms I normally run like: vCenter, DNS, AD, a Storage Appliance and a Veeam Server.lets keep it «low profile», so, Nowadays normally we do h

OMG! 😱 1.3mpx of super high quality pictures, jpeg, TIFF and GIF! a monster!!I bought it, and quickly I started fulling the 64MB memory Stick!! tons of pictures, fortunately, the Computer I’ve got in the house had a 100MB ZIP Drive, so I started backing up my pictures in a Zip Disk, of course, encrypted, but nothing else.I came back from my exchange, life continued, and I just stored my ZIP Disk in the safe with other memories, letters, gifts, etc.Once i

Hi everyone!I had a case during this week, and I wanted to share my experience / workaround with y’all.I wanted to export a backup to an external drive, the VBR was a virtual machine, and no access to the Hypervisor to plug the USB and push it to the vm.Now you may think, mount it somewhere and share it over the network as a shared folder…I did, and was not working, some windows stuff that we were not allowed to share any unit, and was driving us crazy!We did some research, and remembered that there was a way to share / mount remote USB Devices over the Network! now, time to give it a shot!The idea is very straight forward, a Server machine, where the USB Devices is located at, and a client, to mount the remote resource as “local”.The tool name is VIRTUALHEREUSB SERVER(Local USB Drive)→NETWORK→USB CLIENT“Remotely mounted USB Drive”You simply download the Server and client, and execute them in the decided machines, couple of easy configs, and you are good to go, let me show you some scr
Hola,Me gusta mucho curosear las diferentes estrategias que sigue la gente a la hora de guardar sus backups e implementar soluciones, y ver si son simples, complicadas, caras, etc.Desde hace unos dias, he estado viendo mucha gente que, para tener inmutabilidad en sus backups, ha estado desplegando soluciones en Virtual Appliance en sus entornos de virtualización, bien sea un Linux o un Appliance de terceros con inmutabilidad.Ahora bien, me viene a la mente, si es un Appliance Virtual, está ejecutado y guardado en un Entorno de virtualizacion, por tanto, susceptible a ransomware desde la infraestructura.Un posible metodo, es tener una vm con Linux, en el cual montamos un volumen iSCSI de un servidor físico, y lo hacemos inmutable y lo presentamos a VBR, en caso de ataque, podemos descartar la vm linux, crear una nueva, montar el volumen iscsi inmutable, y tener acceso a nuestros datos.¿Cómo teneis vosotros presentados vuestros Backups a VBR?¿Haceis backups inmutables on Prem?Por favor,

Remote access to my Lab Network Yes, you read it right it has a feature that enables the bypass / routing of the networks you have in the Tailscale host, so you can access that network from the remote connected device, in case you need to access a device that has not capability to install Tailscale in it, I use it to access my router, my center and my storage appliance. Hi folks, I continued my tests on the lab, and did a I wanted to share the results and thoughts with you.After the initial setup, and installing Tailscale on my Veeam V&R Server vm, I also installed on a client machine outside of my network (also internet connection, emulating a remote client).Tailscale has a Magic DNS service that, when the agent is installed, you can call the clients by their DNS names (or names configured at the Web console),So, I though, why don't I deploy a backup agent and connect it through the Tailscale VPN network?instead of opening ports, and mapping IP addresses, I give it a shot,I created a protection group and added the test client in the process, as you can see in the screenshots:the, with the agent deployed, I created a backup job to test it out.Now, let's trigger the backup, the fist one will be a FULL one, so I was anxious and “scared” at the same time:Fire in the hole!Backup has started and seems to be doing fine…and here it comes the magic, perfo

Hi everyone,It's being a while since this idea came to my mind, I want to be notified differently that mail, more accurate and clean, my mailbox is always a mess, and I get too much mails to read them all, and start pending on critical alerts and other stuff.I put together a powershell script, a schedule task and a few things in Windows Server where my Veeam B&R V12 is installed, and I managed to receive in a telegram bot the windows events related to Veeam tasks.Very basic, Im not programming skilled or anything like that, do you want to help and contribute to improve and develop this idea?here I share what I've done and shared to anyone who wants to help, participate and use this workaround.I created a Telegram Bot with BotFather, here the link With normal steps.
