V11 - New feature - Prioritize primary backup job - why and how it works

Very interesting information thanks Michael!The priority setting is going to help enormously.As for the “You could of cause concatenate jobs with the schedule option “After this job:” I was always scared of this option as I believe that if something happened to one of the initial jobs and it did not run then the others after it also would not run. I think I may have seen this happen but my memory is blurred. Has anyone ever seen that happen when using “ run after this job”

Building the Home Lab Kubernetes Playground Blog Series

One part to underline is the Dashboard exposure. I know this can get very confusing. MetalLB had been setup before the K10 install in this series. If people just try to jump to the K10 install without setting up a load balancer and ingress controller, then they will either have to port forward or create a nodeport to access the dashboard and it can get tricky and not best practice for production. So it is better to go from A to Z in this series as every part is important, no shortcuts .Also on the wish list for us service providers would be an overview of the new Multi-Tenancy and Multi-Cluster features introduced in V3 :)

Replication of a hyper-v Virtual Machine in which SQL Server is running

Hi akd79, I have done this many times never had any issues and have tested a lot too. As @haslund has pointed out very important to turn on application aware so that VSS is leveraged in Windows so that the database is a “ready” state for backup. Otherwise I believe it would be in “crash consistent” state, like pulling the plug. cheers

Great session folks, really spelled things out nicely. Hey I see Rick on the map mentions US states separately, can we have our provinces in Canada mentioned separately as well :) :). Ontario will probably always be first but you never know :) This might open a can of worms though imagine if in England they demand that the map be highlighted for each county, then Paris will demand that each login from a different arrondissements be lit up :). These sessions will turn into a Veeam Geography lesson. Veeam Geo 101. cheers

[Quicktip] Overwrite Guest processing when VMs selected by vSphere Tags

I actually ran into this and wondered what setting the account to Linux:veeam would actually do? VMware Quiescing is set somewhere else and there is no VSS writer for Linux.Does is just allow you to run the job on those vm’s and skip the MS login attempts? By the way and this is probably known but just in case, remember a good idea to use freeze and thaw scripts even if you have vmware quiescing turned on if you are running databases like Mysql. Or just do application dumps.

What does "Warning: some restore points were not processed" mean?

Someone might have mentioned this already above but just in case. If you are using the old method backup copy jobs then if the copy interval is set a value too low then every time the new interval starts the backup copy job will begin at the start of the vm list. So any big vms towards the end will never make it over. You can move the queue around, so move vms in the job up to the beginning.  Also if the backup job runs every 2 hours I believe the copy job, or at least the vms that are currently being backed up will be locked and can’t be processed until the vms in the backup jobs restore points have been released from the job. If this is the new method (immediate) then I would thing the problem is again that the source job is running too often. One way I solved that issue with a cloud connect customer was not to use a backup copy job for the offsite but simply another backup job to the cloud. That way when it started it would lock the vms and allow itself to finish before the other jo

Backup of Windows 10 PC with server-managed Agent

I just tried this procedure with a Windows Server afterwards and it works, tooSo that was the case with a server OS as well? Wow that I did not realize that. I guess this is again Microsoft trying to protect us from ourselves :). Registry changes tend to help solve that all the time.Anyways, great to know this as I am sure this will come up.

Thanks MichaelThis integrations allows for cool new use cases such as Backup Copy Targets that are on-premises allowing you to escape single vendor lock-in!  I missed this one! So this means that we will be able to send from the Veeam Azure Backup Appliance backup copy jobs offsite? i.e. out of azure? cheers

Hardened (Immutable) extent in Scale Out Repository

I have been doing some testing on mixed ReFS and XFS immutable repositories  myself over the last few days and whilst it does work, its good to know that just because you can, doesn't mean you should   I think there is an issue also due to the fact that ReFS normally for Veeam is formatted as 64K whereas XFS is 4K.
