As a consultant, there’s always mixed appetite for testing, everyone wants, but not everyone is willing to put in the effort to resolve those problems, before they’re real/in production problems. I actually push for daily testing, during the day whilst no backup/few backup jobs are running. SureBackup can be quite IO intensive and as it has no controls for number of VMs vs number of backup tasks running, which would be beneficial for managing available IO. Depending on job structure I’ll tend to have just a DC in the application group, or if testing is suitable then say a DC + appropriate SQL Server VM in the application group, then just link the jobs. This way you can answer the question confidently of “is my data recoverable” every time. Yes I did not specify that I am talking about Copy mode. Imagine I have a set up my job with a retention of 7 days.Day 1 Full backup ==> the full backup is copied to my object storageDay 2 Incremental ==> only new data blocks are copied to my object storageSame process for the next DaysWhat will happen in day 8? Normally the oldest incremantal files is merged with the full backup, but in this case we have immuability set in the object storage.

Yeah this one is good too for quick drawings as I sometimes use it over Visio. 😂 I do not try this one, how to use? It’s all online, just start your project. Add the Veeam library, click on the book on the right Navigate in the librarySearch : Veeam, you should find the “Veeam Unoffical” and Add it to Excalidraw Now you just have to drag and drop your items and create your schema. You can save it on your computer or make an export in PNG or SVG.Really easy to use, perfect in meeting if you have to draw quickly or during a presale presentation etc.
What's the reason that you use forever forward incremental instead of forward incremental with synthetic fulls? With ReFS/XFS the storage consumption won't change that much. The only real advantage, in my opinion, is that you can create virtual full backups to tape. HelloEven if ReFS/XFS are more and more democratized, not all compagny have the ressources to implement it. In a NAS with poor performance I prefer to use forever incremental or active full if there is enough space.And like you said if you need to make some export to tape, with a forever incremental chain you could make a virtual full every day.But I came to this cause in Veeam v12 you ll have the possibilites to backup directly to S3 and the “synthetic full” doesn’t exist anymore for this kind of job.

Hello how many Instance do you have to backup with Veeam for AWS ?Veeam Backup for AWS operating in the Free edition allows you to protect up to 10 instances free of charge. Mind that, this license edition does not support indexing of EFS file systems.
@Stabz: Are you saying you will change your job to backup direct to object storage as soon as v12 comes out? That’s could be a topic question :D ! For the backup jobs, I will not change my jobs to object storage in the cloud cause the best practices recommend to have a backup near the production for best performance. But in the case where my customer have object storage appliance onpremise that could be a new option in the reflexion of the global architecture. I m waiting to have some feedbacks about the backup/restore performances.Another use case to backup directly to object storage and this time in the cloud would be to archive a backup of one vm quickly.On the other hand, I ll probably review for some of my customer the externalization to object storage with backup copy jobs. With a SOBR it's not possible to change the retention configured in the backup job so if you have a long retention on-premise you will have the same in S3. Backup copy job direct to S3 will simplify some arch

I wasn't thinking about that as you were talking about hardened repository. @Geoff BurkeI think Rasmus has answered it above 😉 Yup, I talked about hardened repository cause in this case you can’t configure forever incremental job with this kind of repository :)

Really nice topic which mix Veeam and AD knowledge. By luck I never had to restore all DCs of the infrastructure. But I ll keep all this precious advices in a corner.
Interesting idea. My jobs are typically named a bit more verbosely: Backup VMs to NAS01 Backup VMs to Tape Copy VMs to NAS02 Copy VMs to Wasabi Replicate VMs to DR Replicate CDP VMs to DR Verify VM Replicas in DR Verify VM Backups on NAS01 You get get the idea. I do like your nomenclature though so I may have to think about how to implement that to some degree. These names are typically what often use on description. I prefer job names with only uppercase and without spaces. These are some examples: B2D-VMS-AD BC-VMS-APP LTR-VMS-FS I can definitely see the argument for case and spaces, and that said, it’s a little strange that I opted for this when I was coming up with my standard. I think it was because I needed to be clear to my Engineers/Administrators what each job was doing without confusion at a glance. Might be time to revisit my standards though. I’m using essentially a mix of both like:BKP-VMS-APPBKP-CO
