Question

"Path contains invalid symbol" Veeam Backup and Replication mounted on NAS

Hello,

I have a backup of a Windows PC on the NAS and have added the NAS IP as a backup repository. However, the program says that the path contains invalid characters. If I map the NAS as a drive, I no longer get the error, but the backup cannot be found. If I download the backup to the PC, it works. What could this be?

The path is:
\\192.168.68.136\PC_Backups\laptop_ideapad_2026\Ideapad_Job_Aeternum\Ideapad Job Aeternum2026-03-08T115126.vbk

Replacing spaces with underscores does not help either. As I said, downloading it works.

I use a QNAP NAS.

Regards

This is typically a corrupted VBM file which is the metadata file.  Try renaming it as it will rebuild from the VBK file and see if that fixes the issue.

But if that doesn't work then open a support ticket to get help and rename the file back as it could cause other issues.

hi @Veeam_989

looking at path provide \\192.168.68.136\PC_Backups\laptop_ideapad_2026\Ideapad_Job_Aeternum\Ideapad Job Aeternum2026-03-08T115126.vbk

I can see in file name is containing spaces “Ideapad Job Aeternum2026-03-08T115126.vbk”

my understanding is Veeam repository modules expect RFC‑compliant SMB/NFS-safe filenames.
