One of our client  needs to transfer their VBM 365 backup data from the current S3 bucket in their AWS backup account to a new S3 bucket in a different AWS account for security and compliance reasons. This operation should be seamless, ensuring no disruption to the current backup configurations. It must retain all historical backup data and restore points, resuming the backup operation from where it left off before the migration to the new S3 repository.

Is it possible to achieve this, by adding new s3 bucket to VMS65 And then pointing to new repository? or using a Backup copy job then removing the old S3 bucket ?

Hi @farhatantoun -

I myself don’t use Veeam’s M365 so can’t really help. Let me tag someone who I think can answer that for you. @MicoolPaul ...can you assist here please?

Right now, the only way is to use a third-party migration tool as per this thread in the forums - https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-for-microsoft-365-f47/object-storage-migration-migrate-bucket-a-to-bucket-b-t87494.html

Thanks for chiming in Chris. Appreciate it! 😊

Hi,

Please note that it is not supported to migrate from one object repository to another at this time, and using any third party tools to achieve this are unsupported from Veeam and entirely at your own risk. You’ll be responsible for validating data integrity post migration and compatibility between S3/S3 compatible systems

Thank you for the assist and clarification & risks Michael.

Thank you for your clarification, but i have a side question here.

The backup copy from the main primary s3 bucket to a second bucket will copy all previous backups that where done before integrating the backup copy? or it will dismiss all the previous backup and will send only the new one?  please can you give me a clarification on how the backup copy will work if a secondd s3 bucket is added and a backup copy job is created.
