Dear Veeam Experts,

We are facing an issue related to replication copy data from DC to DR. At the DC location, we are able to see all monthly full backup dates; however, at the DR location, we can only see a single backup date instead of the complete full backup.

Could you please help us identify the root cause of this issue and guide us on how to resolve it?

Regards,

Venkat

Hi @Venkata Sai Kumar  Welcome to the community!

What is your retention policy configured for the local backup and copy job in DR location? Do you see any failures or errors in copy job?

Hi @Mohamed Ali,

We configure both backup and backup copy job retention period is same #GFS 3 years. there is no backup job failed.

Hi @Mohamed Ali,

We configure both backup and backup copy job retention period is same #GFS 3 years. there is no backup job failed.

Backup and Backup Copy jobs maintain their own explicit GFS configuration. The Copy job must have GFS enabled separately, it does not inherit GFS from the source job.

If you can share the Backup and Backup Copy job policy settings along with the list of available restore points at both DC and DR, we can take look

@Mohamed Ali We will provide the required details shortly. Meanwhile, could you please share the best practices for configuring Backup and Backup Copy job, along with any additional suggestions or recommendations?

Hi Venkata Sai Kumar,

we faced common issue, that customer wanted to have locally 1 month daily, 3 months weekly. And customer wanted to have on remote location weekly backups only.

So in in copy jobs is mandatory days for daily - we have set 1 day, but Veeam support suggested 2 days.

so we have been set 2 days and then set properly GFS like so we have been set 3 months (value 12) for weekly backups.

So if you would like to set monthly remotely, in this case it will be 2 days and in GFS like 1 weekly and some of the week (like first Saturday) monthly backup. So one weekly will be marked as monthly. In this case customer has to have 1 weekly on top of charging with 2 daily daily backups.

There is no other way how to set monthly in the copy jobs.

@Marcel.K Thanks for the update,

I have attached the available restore points for both locations. Kindly review and verify.

We have configured the Retention Policy and GFS settings the same for both locations:

  • Retention Policy: 14 days

  • GFS: Weekly full backup (52 weeks – Saturday)

However, we observed that the restore point dates are not matching for some of the previous dates. Please check and confirm.

Kindly suggest this one, how to archive this case “ WE NEED TO MATCH BOTH LOCATION’S SAME RESTORE POINT”  DC-data should be visible on DR-location.

And one more thing “ what is the cause of the reasons “mismatching restore point for the DC and DC to DR”

Regards,

Venkat

Hi Venkata Sai Kumar,

i see from screenshot, that 2nd and 3rd day of latest backup, you have from same day

i would check first settings of primary and copy job - you dont have same day for synthetic and weekly backup in primary job and this same day on copy job - for example Saturday has to be set in all three fields - If you dont have same day, this could leads to multiple restore point ….

another issue could be that you backup same object with multiple backup jobs

please double check if these objects are in the same backup jodb and they are only these in copy job

another issue could be if time of both repositories are synced - we had issue , when one repository had different time +2 minutes ….
