This is a Proof of Concept (POC) for Veeam VBR v12.3 with the Huawei DCS platform. My customer is planning to migrate production virtual machines from the VMware vSAN platform to the new Huawei DCS platform. I will now perform VM backups on the Huawei DCS platform using Veeam’s agent.

POC Environment:
Huawei DCS Cluster with 2 nodes
Huawei Dorado Storage
Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage (Veeam Repository)
Veeam VBR v12.3
Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and Ubuntu Linux VM

I have created the backup policy for these testing VMs. The backup job will run for one week. Afterward, I will evaluate the backup and recovery performance, as well as the deduplication ratio. I will share the testing results here after one week.

Hi Victor,

we are also running a PoC with Huawei DCS at the moment and I would be very interested in knowing the Status of Veeam supporting Backups for DCS, as this would be kind of a show stopper if it would not be implemented. Can you share some more Information on your PoC and when we can expect Veeam to support Huawei DCS ?

Thanks

René

Hi @victorwu  I've heard that Veeam integration with Huawei products is not that simple. Have you encountered any issues during configuration that you could share with us?

I am also very interested in knowing if there is a roadmap or any planning from VEEAM regarding the integration of this virtualization platform. We would like to avoid using VeeamAgent.

what the solution for backup data immutability, as dataturbo file system owner got to be dataturbo user, and linux user right dont work well with dataturbo. how veeam immutable repo can work with dataturbo?  and the Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage own immutablity feature are too clunky to work with veeam

I did not get any information about this roadmap.

Yes. I will use Huawei OceanProtect as backup repository.

Check with you, for dataturbo, do you enable dataturbo source deduplication and compression on the dataturbo gateway server? Or using OceanProtect built in systemwide reduction feature.?

And for dataturbo, not sure how effective it will be, as most setup are 10G or 25G networking. Say if dataturbo source deduplication and compression not enabled, don't see any benefits to use dataturbo, compare to cifs and nfs.

Possible to do a compare on using dataturbo without enable source deduplication and compression vs dataturbo enable source deduplication and compression vs nfs vs cifs?

Enabled deduplication and compression on Huawei OceanProtect with 10Gb network, the file format is NFS.

@victorwu any updates on your results?

The POC was completed in December 2025, and the results were generally positive. The customer was able to successfully back up and recover Huawei DCS (FusionCompute) using Veeam v12.
