Veeam Data Platform vs other Backup & Recovery Solutions v2

Today I will share one hardware refreshment project for casino. Their existing environment is vSAN 6.7 (vSAN Ready Nodes) and Veeam VBR v9, both hardware and software are end of supported. My customer request to migrate the existing VMs into a new platform and prevent ransomware attacks. My competitor proposed other hypervisor and DBackup for this project. And I proposed VxRail Appliance (new generation) and Veeam v12 + Veeam immutable repository. Backup and store in H3C CAS & UIS Platform

In this moment, Veeam Backup and Replication v12 is not supported the H3C CAS/UIS platform. If you want to backup and restore the virtual machines on H3C CAS/UIS, you can backup the VM with Agent. I tested it on my lab environment. If you want to restore the VM (image level) to H3C CAS/UIS, you need to create the “Recovery media”. Then you can boot up this recovery meda on recovery VM and choose Bare Metal Reocvery. If you want to restore the volumes on VM, you can directly restore it with VBR. Delete data within a time interval on a compatible S3 repository.

Hello, We recently implemented a new retention policy for our VBM jobs, set to 6 months instead of 10 years. However, we still observe the presence of restore points from the old retention policy. Would it be possible to delete data exceeding the 6-month threshold in accordance with the new retention policy? Thank you for your responses.

Incremental Retention

Hello, I have a question, please. I've noticed on Veeam Backup that I still have incremental and full images for some VMs that have been removed from the backup . I use a daily retention of 14 days with 12 days as immutable and some Full in GFS. Does the 14-day retention mean that Veeam will keep the restoration points created in the last 14 days indefinitely, or should these restoration points be deleted? Thank you for your assistance.

Retention on a deactivated backup copy

Hello, We have a backup copy job that offloads data to an S3 storage. We want to change the bucket used, but for a new backup copy job. The question is: if we deactivate the first backup copy job, will it retain the applied retention settings? Currently, we have a 15-day retention, with 7 days set as immutable. Veeam 12 Thank you!

change the retention type on my VBM365

Hello, I'm trying to change the retention type on my VBM365 backups from Item level to snapshot, but it doesn't give me the option to change it if I select the same folder on the S3 bucket. Will I be required to initiate a new full backup? A second question: I want to understand how Item level retention works, as it's not clear to me. I have a 5-year retention on Exchange, how does it work in the background? Thank you

Applying Veeam Backup & Replication 11a Cumulative Patch P20211211

Before installing this cumulative patch, please confirm that you are running Veeam Backup & Replication 11a (build 11.0.1.1261) with or without earlier patches. If you are running any Veeam Backup & Replication version between 9.5 U4b and 11, you can use the ISO “VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.iso” to upgrade your installation directly to v11a P20211211. We can download this patch in here https://www.veeam.com/kb4245 Execute “VeeamBackup&Replication_11.0.1.1261_20211211.exe” Click Next. Click Install. It will stop all Veeam services, then start the patch upgrade. Click Finish after the patch 20211211 is installed successfully. DRO DB Query for Registered VMs

I’m wondering if anybody has tried getting a report of all VMs that would be registered in vCenter during failover. Our Plan Type is Storage and some of the VMs in the volume are not required to be recovered at the DR site. The Plan Report shows the VMs but I’m thinking of a DB report, for example, that would enumerate the VMs that would be registered instead of manually retrieving them from the plan. In short, a report showing a VM with “Register VM” in the Recovery Steps. Thanks.
