Hello everyone

I want to take VMCA and VMCE this month. The certificate will say the year 2026, right? Thanks.

Hi @crackocain!

The VMCA has already been discontinued as of November 30, 2025.

Unfortunately, you will no longer be able to take this exam in its current form.

The VMCSE will soon be available as an “alternative,” but I cannot say whether it will be treated as a replacement for the VMCA.

The VMCE was originally also discontinued on December 31, 2025, but thanks to an extension by Veeam, you now have the option to take the VMCE until March 31, 2026.
Further information is available here: Veeam Certification

I cannot say whether there are any alternative plans for this or whether the VMCE will be included in the VMCSE together with the VMCA.
That would be worth asking again.

I hope this helps?

Best regards,
Fabian

Hi @crackocain -

Welcome to the Community! As @fabian.papenfuss points out, the VMCA is retired so you won’t even be able to schedule it in PearsonVUE. It is no more and what is replacing it is the VMCSE. More on this in a second.

The VMCE is also being retired, but you will be able to take it until 31 Mar 2026 (extended from 31 Dec 2025), with the last available date to book it being 23 Mar. See @Federica ‘s post on this below:

So now to discuss both VMCE and VMCA. Both are or will be retiring. The VMCE will transition to VMCE-E and will consist of needing to have taken 3 Courses → VDP Configure, Manage, Administer; VONE Course; VRO Course. If you hold a current VMCE v12 (YYYY) cert, you don’t have to take the VDP Course but since v13 has so many changes than in v12 it’s highly recommended to take. But the other 2 courses will be required. With each new Course there is an exam associated with them and you then have to pass each of the 3 to then attain your VMCE-E.

The certification replacing the VMCA moving forward will now be the VMCSE. To attain this certification, you must have your current VMCE-E (Veeam Certified Engineer - Expert..I think the last “e” is for “expert” iirc), then take the Veeam Security course and pass the Veeam Security exam. Once you’ve taken & passed this course & exam, you will then receive your VMCSE (Veeam Certified Security Expert).

I will be discussing this in a bit more detail on 10 Feb at 10a EDT in a virtual VUG USA event. Come join if you’re able. You’ll be able to register for it soon.

Hope that helps.

Best.

I attend VMCA course in 2024. As defined by VMCE, it would be ideal if individuals who have completed VMCA training or hold current certifications did not need to undergo retraining.

The VMCA is retired. If you didn’t take the exam since you took the Course 2yrs ago, you won’t be able to take it now. If you took the VMCE Course (at some point) and have kept taking “current” VMCE exams as they’ve been released, you do not need to take a VMCE Course to take the v12 VMCE exam. I don’t think you are even able to take a v12 VMCE Course anyway since it’s offiically retired(ing). And, to explicitly answer your initial question..yes, your VMCE certification should say Veeam Certified Engineer 2026.

Details on how the v13 trainings will be explicitly run are still being worked out. But, for now, what I shared above holds true.

Hope that helps.

Best.

Hi @crackocain -

I have updated information for your question. First, the info given for the VMCA still holds true. You are not able to take that exam as it retired 30 Nov. So that’s a “no-go”. Also, there was commented in here that the VMCSE is replacing the VMCA. That is also not accurate. There will be a replacement for the VMCA, but that is still in the discussion phase at this point. The new cert acronym Veeam is talking about giving this new architect is the VMCAr.

As for the VMCE, that is now not being retired per se, but “transitioned”. It is transitioning to be VMCE+. This exam requires you to attend 3 courses → VBR, VONE, and VRO. If you hold a current VMCE certificaiton  you do not have to take the VBR course, but the other 2 are still needed. Once you take all 3 courses, you will then be able to take (and hopefully pass 🙏🏻)  the new VMCE+ exam. I was on the cert development team for this. Veeam is hoping to release the new cert exam end of June, maybe July. But of course...this could change. Also, the new v13 VONE and VRO courses are now available on Veeam University for purchase.

Now, about the VMCSE. This is a whole new certification, not replacing anything. To attain this certification, you will need to have a current VMCE+ certification, take the new Veeam Enterprise Security course, then take (and hopefully pass 🙏🏻) the VMCSE exam. The Security course is also now available for purchase on Veeam University too.

I hope this info answers all your questions. If any of the comments helped answer your question, I also ask you mark one as “best answer” so others who come across your post who have the same inquiry can benefit.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Best.
