Forgot to post the 2nd question for the week yesterday, so here it is…

Please hide your comments. Good luck!

To keep your backups running at peak performance, you choose to enable Maintenance settings in your jobs, specifically to Defragment and Compact your backups on the Last Saturday of the month, as shown in the image below:

Defragment Configuration

When you look at your Backup Job history on this day to verify this task ran, there is no mention of it in the list of job tasks. What might cause Compact to not run?

  1. You have Linux VMs in your Backup Job
  2. Your Repository is not configured to use Per-VM backups
  3. Your Backup Jobs are running the Forward Incremental Backup Method
  4. Compact is only available for Enterprise and above Veeam Editions
  1. Compact is only available in Enterprise and above Veeam Editions

im not sure if it‘s an license feature regarding Enterprise and above, but any other option, doesn’t make sense imo. So i would go with:

d. Compact is only available for Enterprise and above Veeam Editions

The (late) answer to last Thurs’s question is below…

For all potential answer options listed, a. and b. simply have no bearing on whether a Compact can be done or not. Linux VMs are obviously allowed, and the Repo Per-VM setting has no bearing on the Compact function. This leaves the remaining 2 options. Compacting is a feature available to all Editions, so that leaves 1 final option as the answer → c. Your Backup Jobs are running the Forward Incremental Backup Method. The reason this is the answer is because with Fwd, you perform occasional Fulls so there is no need to do occasional ‘maintenance’ Compacting. For more info, see URL below:
