Hello,

For those who missed the information, there is a new snapshot mode for VSAN in vsphere 8. It looks promising for speed specially on large scale infra with vsan, it will obvisously reduce the time needed for snapshot processing on the backup jobs.

Scalable, High-Performance Native Snapshots in the vSAN Express Storage Architecture | VMware

Can’t wait to test it in production to compare real number from the field!

If anyone already tested it, i will curious to have a feedback.

Backup software using vSphere Storage APIs (Commonly called VADP) will leverage the new vSAN ESA Snapshots automatically as they functionally replace the old snapshots.

Nice.

This is going to be pretty cool. Especially with the reduction in latency.

Indeed it was not my first thought but it could be useful too!

@BertrandFR  Can a VEEAM Version 11 use the VSAN ESA API already or is that only usable with the currenct VEEAM 12 l .

We have a   VSAN ESA Cluster and experience some latency Problem in Backups with a VEEAM 11 Version .

Hello @muy69 to backup vsphere 8 infrastructure you must have Veeam v12

So I made a Video demoing what is possible with the vSAN ESA Snapshot engine. It’s quite fun.
