Failback Azure VMs to VMware VMs using Veeam backup

Hi Folks,

If I have failover VMs from On-Prem VMware VMs by using offsite backup to Azure VMs during DR, can I failback VMs in VMware by using Veeam backup again? If yes, how can i failback?

Thanks

Hi sanjay24,

could you please describe more specific of your setup?

I understand, that you are using repository S3 in Azure as copy job?

Or do you using replication to Azure?

thank you

Hi @makacmar,

Our requirement is, run DR using Veeam backup (VB). We will maintain offsite VB repository in Azure Storage Blob. When DR triggers, we will build new VB server in the Azure and then import backup objects from the new server. Later restore into Azure by direct restore method.

During DR, take backup into Azure Repos and store into On-Prem repository.

Once PROD alive, failback VMs by restoring backup from On-Prem repository updated from Azure Repos.

Can you confirm if this solution applicable and approved from Veeam.

“When DR triggers, we will build new VB server in the Azure and then import backup objects from the new server. Later restore into Azure by direct restore method.”

You would like to deploy VBR and how you would like to import object - you have script to import backup object from new server or to new server?

Maybe is better to have already VBR, which is configured and offline and then you need only to start server and run rescan and then restore.

“During DR, take backup into Azure Repos and store into On-Prem repository.” - backup first to same blob and then to onprem?

or maybe you should think about moving VBR directly to Azure and using orchestrator
