If the immutability period hasn’t expired, nothing can happen with them. You can also only have one capacity tier extent in a SOBR as of v11 (changing in v12), so you can’t evacuate from capacity tier at all, only from performance tier. It is a performance tier. its a local linux repo. so if i evacuate 7 days of immutalbe will stay on the extent i guess.

Hi @Hartmut, I’d need to validate this in the lab but when you back up your VMs, Veeam would learn the source network information, this is handy in scenarios whereby you have multiple NICs such as a DMZ and a LAN interface so you can change the correct one. I wouldn’t expect the source network to still have to exist, because as you say, in a DR this network may no longer exist. If I get some time to lab this I’ll report back my findings by backing up a VM with a port group and then delete the port group. It would be great If you could find an easier way. During my testing a vailid source network was needed. The name of the portgroup must equal the name of the source network from the vm in the backupfile. Veeam puts an array of networking informationes in the variable. So just entering the name for -SourceNetwork will not work too.
Ok, I could resolve the problem. So you have to give the -TargetNetwork AND the -SourceNetworkIf your Source environment is destroyed, as it is during disaster, you need to create a dummy-network in the target vCenter. The network doesn´t matter. The name, should be the same, like in the source site. Just read the source network like the target network. so the task will map the specified source network to the specified target network. That’s the challenge. The use case is disaster recovery.There is no source network anymore. It’s a direct vm recovery from s3 to vmware cloud on aws. I will try to rebuild the network in the destination an use it as „source“ maybe that’s working. I will report. Thx so far
object type seems to be correct. In a screenshot I just saw you wrote $network.name as parameter. This is definitely wrong, because this will be a string-type. You need to replace be $network only. The other screenshot shows the error error in parameter source. Thanks for your answers :-)But useing only $network will not work. The greenline is, whats in the varaible $network. The Start-VBRRestoreVM Task is working fine, without -TargetNetwork $network . I guess I need to enter a -SorceNetwork $sourcenetwork as well. Thats why he is asking for source. So how do I get the source network from the backup file? I quess than I have anything I need.

That is the error message When I am using just the variable: Thats the error Message, when I am choosing one single objcet. $network.Name for example. I get the same error message form any kind of objects that I can choose. And yes, I guess VBRViNetworkInfo[] is needed, when I understand the documentation correctly.

I got it. I added the vCenter by IP due to dns issues we had earlier. Now I added the vCenter by FQDN. Now I can perform a restore.“When adding a vCenter server, specify the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that ends with vmwarevmc.com or vmc.vmware.com (depending on the URL shown in the VMWONAWS interface for the vCenter)”
As Veeam only provide software, not hardware it’s down to your policies configured within Veeam and the supported durability of underlying storage. There’s no reason to say it couldn’t, I’d suggest looking at the 3-2-1-1-0 backup rule for this specific requirement. Likely using a copy to Tape and a copy to object That’s correct, that’s the way we do it. (3-2-1 …). That’s fine. We just need to confirm, that the .vbk will be readable in 10-30 years. For example .pdf is a vaild way to archive data. That’s our business requirement.The rest, I totally agree. We do veryfication, archive tier immutable offloading, and archive testing. I am thinking about, putting veeam installation files in the backup and archive jobs. Or even the backup server.
We call it in germany “audit-proof archiving”. Thats what we need. “Revisionssicherheit – Wikipedia”I am sure to provide it with veeam, but I need to convince my management. :-) That´s why I am asking.

Hi @Hartmut , by my knowledge, Veeam Orchestrator is only possible for a vSphere environment. Hhhmm - maybe using an api call on the pre scripts in Veeam Orchestrator. Is it possible to start a vbk restore as ec2 by useing veeam api? It would put this in a pre script for veeam orchestrator.
You could look in to SureBackup jobs for testing recoverability. This allows you to run a job that will test to ensure the servers in your backups are recoverable. See here - SureBackup Job - Veeam Backup Guide for vSphere You would need to set up an Application Group and Virtual Lab to run the SureBackup job properly for testing. Hi, thats not really what I am looking for. We are already useing SureBackup for verfications. Thats fine.We need a real desaster recovery environment. Veeam Orchestrator might be interessting for this part. The big question is, is Veeam Orchestrator able, to do restores on ec2 or azure instances? Replicas to ec2 or Azure from Backupfiles stored in S3 or Blob would be really needed in our case. Its more a kind of that, what AWS CloudEndure does.
Actually we do not use it for sql server, but for ad and exchange. (Both with Agent)With Exchange and ad its working fine.We were always in discussion with the database administrator. They only trust the backup from the sql manager. So if you force them, to use veeam, you will lose anyway. If its working - fine. If not, in any case, you are lost :-). So the database administrator is responsible for backup and restore there databases. With Veeam, we do backup the hole server including the sql backup files. So on an issue, we are able to restore the hole sql server in once. If the sql database are not working probably, we can restore them from sql backup. So it´s a kind of double protection. After this we do offlaoding to S3IA immutable + Archive due to our retention.

Hi Hartmut, we do need an appliance to convert from the “normal” S3 objects to the bigger archive objects. This appliance is created on demand just for this job and then decommissioned afterwards. Does your used AWS IAM account have the right permissions? Due to this process we of course need to be able to configure a new instance and all the security stuff around it. Check the Required Permissions for a special section on “Amazon S3 Glacier Storage Permissions” for a C&P version of the required IAM policy. And of course you have to double check whether it’s possible at all to connect to the provisioned EC2 instance via SSH from the VBR with the configured settings (VPC/subnet/security group) - check the Used Ports section for the Proxy Appliance - it requires a connection via SSH (TCP/22) and HTTPS (TCP/443). I assume it’s just the missing ports in the SG or maybe a limitation of the network ACL. It is TCP/22. I found the suitable Veeam logfiles. Thx to you.
It would probably make sense to outsource it in a separate course, but as each cloud varies with their feature sets and Veeam integration I think it will be hard to create a single course for all vendors. Of course, it would be possible, however, the real question is are customers interested in paying for a 3-day long class about 3-4 different public cloud vendors out of which they use one? Actually I would say that a basic cover of the 3-4 biggest clouds would be ok. The basic Veeam features are on the clouds the same, with some differents do to limitation of the cloud vendors. The basics to get Veeam backups offloaded, recovered, server enrolled are on most clouds similar. VPC, Network, Security, IAM settings focus on Veeam usecase. In my opinion it should not replace an AWS or Azure certified Course. We already use multicloud. O365, AWS, VMConAWS … . The one for MS Advantages the other for features. … Some Veeam Cloud features are working only on AWS Thx to all for this

Hey, thank your for your information.Yes, heartbeat test is a workaround that we are going to try. But this will not be enough in the feature. We need to do some sure replica and sure backup verifcation in an nsx-t environment. Internal but also on VMC on AWS. So it would be a feature we will need in the future.
