Required Permission in K10

Hi,For daily admin operation in K10 you can use K10-admin role or you can use your own clusterrole with K10 permissions.  https://docs.kasten.io/latest/access/rbac.html#default-k10-clusterrolesAbout K8s, no much information in K10 docs, but as far as I understand, cluster-admin role isn’t actually mandatory for deployment or daily operation.  You could use your own clusterrole with the minimum privileges to deploy K8s resources, and to deal with them (get, list,  create, update, delete): https://kubernetes.io/docs/reference/access-authn-authz/authorization/.  Basically K10 needs enough permissions to deal with the resources during backup and restore operations, so a too restricted account most likely won’t work.

No, you are talking about Forward Incremental Backup, and there isn’t merge operations for that backup mode.On Saturday you will have a new full backup, and Veeam will wait until you have 6 additional incremental backups before being able to remove the restore point from previous week.  So, in your case, you will have up to 13 restore points instead of 7.  Once Veeam creates the restore point number 14, then the 7 initial restore points (1 full + 6 incrementals) will be removed. Please check this link from official documentation about how the retention works:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/retention_incremental.html?ver=110 As Michael said, another option is just to use Forever Forward Incremental without having weekly full backups:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/retention_forever_incremental.html?ver=110

Synthetic full is a all new backup file.  The only case when Synthetic full contains pointers to data blocks from previous backup files is when the backup repository is using ReFS as a file system instead of NTFS.

How is the veeam cookbook different from helpcenter documents? The idea of the cookbook isn’t replace the helpcenter documents at all.   It is not meant as a full documentation or detailed explanation of the features, thus, the cookbook is not intended for professionals in search of answers and suggestions to different topics.The cookbook it is just a practical guide on how to do a single task within Veeam, all in a single recipe, without the need of navigating through the official doc trying to understand how to accomplish a single task.  So, the whole idea is to provide a valuable resource for those people that know the “how”, but have just forgotten, or for those that just want to know how to do it without the explanations.

Buenas tardes Ander! Desde Veeam Backup and Replication, la forma de hacer lo que indicas ahora mismo es solamente utilizando Scale-Out Backup repositories con Capacity Tier.  https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/capacity_tier.html?ver=110 Hay que esperar a la v12 para relizar copias directa a un Object Storage como Azure Blob.

Unificar repositorios en uno virtual

Que tal Carlos. Lo normal y recomendable es que, si tienes multiples repositorios y quieres que al momento de configurar un Job de Backup no tengas que elegir uno en especifico, es utilizando efectivamente Scale-Out Backup repositories (SOBR).En general, el uso de SOBR facilita la administración de los respaldos, ya que todos los Jobs apuntan al mismo SOBR, y es éste el que elige el extent (disco/repositorio) donde irán los backups.

Kasten K10 Licensing for Service Provider

Licensing is always a matter of discussion for any solution, and that also applies for Kasten.  Currently indeed the licensing mode is to license all worker nodes in a Kubernetes cluster, regardless the size or the workloads running on those workers.  I’m not in the Kasten team, so I can’t provide any accurate feedback regarding to further modifications in how the solution is licensed.Anyway, it’s important to remember that Kasten provides a free license for small environments (whether for production workloads or not) with up to 5 worker nodes, with all Kasten features included.  Of course no support from Kasten is provided, and in case the customer needs to scale beyond those 5 nodes, then they need an enterprise license for ALL workers.So for customer in the beginning of their K8s journey, they can start with this free edition, and of course it’s important to take good design decisions from scale perspective.  For instance, it doesn’t make sense to have a large cluster with many work

Kasten K10 Licensing for Service Provider

BTW, as far as I know, Service Providers should contact directly with Kasten sales team, as of course the Service Provider’s business model is quite different as a normal customer.  Not sure what would be the difference for licensing, but there is a distinction between Service Providers and end-customers.

Pure Portworx PX-Backup and Kasten K10

Hi Markus,As far as I know, there isn’t such a comparison out there for both solutions.  Nevertheless, I’ve been reading a bit about Portworxs and I can see many features are similar to Kasten, but still there are features where Kasten is still a more complete solution, like:Kanister blueprints can be used in Kasten to provide consistent backups for data services like relational and no-relational databases.   Maybe I’m wrong but Portworx support here is much more limited. Kasten DR feature allows to recover the entire K8s cluster even if Kasten itself is broken after a disaster.  Again, I’m not aware of any similar feature in Portworx which is kind of important for your DR strategy. As you already have OpenShift in vSphere, if you eventually use vSphere CSI for PVCs, you can leverage Veeam Repositories also for Kubernetes backups.If you are planning to migrate your apps to the cloud, or you are planning a hybrid strategy, including DR features, maybe Kasten could be more flexible.Not s
