I have this set up with the hotkey ctrl + w in my terminal,

If you want to do that then you can do that by editing your shell config file, in my case I am using ZSH so i need to edit the .zshrc file and add the bind key option down below.

zsh, ah yes what I have on the MAC. Have you seen this https://ohmyz.sh/ it has a ton of plugins including kubectl git etc. 

Makes things easier too https://www.thorsten-hans.com/autocompletion-for-kubectl-and-aliases-using-oh-my-zsh/
