In theory this could be extended to hit any Veeam API. In a world where we will have many platforms to protect something like this might make life easier when concentrating on the whole application.

Rancher Desktop 1.13.1 Enhancements

Hi Everyone, A new update is out for Rancher Desktop and there are some nice additions. To be honest I have not been on the RD for awhile so I am not sure if some of these came in the latest update or one of the other recent ones. Cluster Dashboard: Cluster Dashboard The Cluster Dashboard can help beginners visualize Kubernetes concepts and make management easier. Inside the Dashboard While it is tempting to live in the Dashboard I would still recommend getting. Another interesting addition is Web Assembly which has been labeled experimental. Go to preferences: Preferences Then enable Web Assembly: Web Assembly Your cluster will restart. Kubevirt on K3S

Hi Folks, Recently Veeam Vanguard @k00laidIT aka Jim Jones asked about which Linux distribution to use for kubernetes/minikube. Turns out he is going to explore kubevirt. Now if he is looking into this you know it is serious. Feeling pangs of IT conscience I decided to take a look myself. I have known about kubevirt for a while but for some strange reason never wandered into those woods. So this week I decided it was high time to discover potentially yet another Kubernetes rabbit hole to fall blissfully into! To my surprise everything was much simpler that I was prepared for. Here is my step by step set of instructions for getting kubevirt up and running on a 3 node k3s cluster. I might also try this on a Laptop Rancher Desktop install a bit later as well. Which Linux Distribution for Kubernetes/miniKube

Hey all, going to try to start up with a bare metal, single node kubernetes implementation with kubevirt. From what I can gather minikube is probably the easiest method to get there so plan to use that as my k8s level. One question I have is that of what is the preferred linux distro to sit underneath such things? I tend to skew towards ubuntu but curious if you all see something better out there for this kind of use case.

Kasten K10 Immutable backups offsite with BackBlaze

Today we are going to create a Kasten backup to an immutable Backblaze Bucket in the cloud. Login to your Backblaze account and create the immutable Bucket: Create a Bucket I will name it kastenimmutable: Enable Object Lock Done Make sure to jot done the endpoint: Endpoint Next we need to add an application key: Application Key Kasten Key App Key Now lets head back to Kasten and create the location Profile: Location Profile Further down check mark the “Enable Immutable Backups” box and proceed to validate the bucket: Validation We forgot to put a default retention on the bucket. Kasten requires a 21 day default retention set on the bucket: Error Back in the Backblaze console click the Object Lock Highlighted text and add the retention: 21 days Object Lock now states Default 21 Days Now our validation succeeds: success Location Profile Now we will create a new backup and export the snapshot to our Backblaze immutable bucket: Create a Policy In the policy make sure to enable Backups via

Migrating my Wiki Application from Proxmox to Synology K3S installations

I have decided to spread my lab out somewhat. My wiki application wikijs was on my Promox server but I decided to move it over to my synology. I wanted to keep things simple and am moving it from a single node k3s setup to a similar setup on synology. The tool of choice to perform the migration of course is Kasten! First create a new ubuntu server VM on Synology: Linux storage resources ISO Users VM is ready Next perform the OS installation. Kasten Air-Gapped installation with AWS Elastic Container Private Registry

A very common requests to deploy Kasten in production Kubernetes environments, is the use of a Private Registry and deploying Kasten in AirGap mode. #90DaysOfDevOps - 2024 - We're half way there...

I have posted a couple of times here about the #90DaysOfDevOps journey but wanted to give an update on how things are going for 2024 and if anyone is not aware share some links to catch up and learn something new. Project Pace: Had to slow down, minikube is broken!

Over the last few years I have been a big fan of minikube for getting a Kubernetes cluster up and running on the device I am working on, one of the biggest advantages was the addons available which meant it was an easy emulation of storage for K10 to be installed and start protecting some demo applications…. But minikube is broken! I documented some fixes here….. The benefits of using minikube or KinD (Kubernetes in Docker) or even K3s with rancher is that you do not really need to understand the underpinning technology, think of it a little like vSphere going back to pre ESX 3.5 days when you might have needed to interact with the CLI of your ESX hosts but these days less and less do we have to… These local development clusters (even though we are not using them for development is a great way to get started learning about the higher level of applications running on Kubernetes without knowing the engine…. but we can still drive the vehicle. Creating a PKS Home Lab: Promox + Synology + K3s Part 2

Home Lab Proxmox Synology and K3S Part 2 In this second part of the blog series we are going to install K3S on all of our VMs. We will also leverage the Synology CSI driver and test it out at the end. Firstly, we want to be able to connect to all 3 VMs seamlessly from my Windows Ubuntu WSL on my laptop. We can use this method to push our public key on to the VMs. Create a file called server.list with the IP addresses of the 3 VMs. vi server.list 192.168.0.80 192.168.0.81 192.168.0.82 ... Next run this script to copy your public key onto the VMs. #!/bin/bash while IFS= read -r server; do ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub "$server" done < servers.list INSTALLING K3S We are going to disable the default servicelb loadbalancer and Traefik ingress controller and use Metallb instead. Also it is a good idea to disable local storage. I actually forgot this in my setup so later on I describe what you can do so that the default K3S local storage-path storageclass does not stay set at the one used
