windows agent backup fails after server upgraded from 2012 to 2016

In protection group shows the server name by both OS versions :  2012 OS ( last seen 5 days ) and 2016 OS - ( Last seen - Online ), however the rescan option gives the error :

Failed to connect server:11731

The veeam agent is in running state and is restarted, still no luck

Have removed the server from the protection group, then re-added the server, while installation it removed the old backup agent and repaired and installed the agent afresh.

The backup for this server is running and is full backup, the vm with old OS version is still listed in backups ( disk ) and perhaps would need manually deletion once the retention expires as the backup mode is set to forever incremental.

@Bennet - is this the standalone VAW agent or are you using VBR with it? You can take a look at the logs found in %ProgramFiles%\Veeam\Endpoint Backup , as well as take a look at Windows Event Logs. See below for noteworthy Events to check:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agentforwindows/userguide/appendix_events.html?ver=13

At the very least...you can open a case with Veeam Support. Even if you’re using the Free edition, you can still do so, although the attentiveness of your case would be ‘best effort’.

I’d try reinstalling the Agent on the server, maybe that helps. But I’m with Shane, you should consider opening a support ticket to get assistance.

What version of Veeam are you using?  It might be as simple as upgrading it to the latest release to possibly resolve the issue (highly unlikely) but in any case a support ticket as mentioned is the best route.

@Bennet glad you got it fixed!

Glad to hear it was a simple fix, and you got the backups working again.  Retention should work in the background to remove those old files, but if not, it may require manual intervention.
