Why We Value Real-World Experience Over AI-Generated Posts

We know AI is becoming a normal part of how people create content, and lately we’ve been seeing more of it show up in the Community Hub.

That said, posts that are mostly AI-generated don’t really add the kind of value this community is built on—especially when that same information can be created by anyone using the same tools.

What we’re really looking for is your experience: real-world scenarios, hands-on demos, lessons learned, and practical insights from what you’re actually doing day to day. That’s what makes the community useful and interesting for everyone.

Also, content that is primarily AI-generated won’t be considered as part of the criteria for becoming a Legend or Vanguard.

So if you’re sharing, try to lead with your own voice and perspective—that’s the part that really matters.

Thank you for this statement, Madi! Let's build a community with real content.

Thank you Madi.

I use AI myself for different topics and reasons, but for a person-lead community with our values we have, I fully agree on the statement.

AI always helps myself for larger articles to do some kind of spell-checking and rewriting - but the only reason is, that I’m not a native English-speaker and I only focus on English content for around 2 years now.

Happy Friday news 😁

It’s important to remember that AI can’t truly invent anything new, it’s the human spark that drives so much of the value this community has built over the years.

Search options already exist to discover existing content within the Veeam Community, and AI can crawl the data as well. So problems can be solved by these tools and fresh thinking and ideas should remain our human elements and contributions 🙂

Thank you very much for this statement!

Unfortunately, we’re seeing more and more AI-generated posts, which, regrettably, aren’t always technically accurate. There’s no place for these in the community, and people who aren’t deeply familiar with Veeam end up receiving incorrect information.

AI support has become indispensable and we all use it in our daily work for some tasks.

As support for blog posts, I see it as a tool for spell-checking or verifying the information in the post. However, the post should be written by the person themselves.

It's the people and their deep knowledge that ultimately make the community what it is—not an AI bot (Even though you could get more attention by using an AI bot and posting a massive number of posts per day.But that's not necessary and doesn't add any real value!).

Wish you all a great sunny weekend!

Thanks for your statement, Madi.

It can really help improve the overall quality of the community if we all lean more on our knowledge and share solutions we know actually work and have been tested in real-world scenarios.

It’s sometimes better to write nothing than to offer random advice that could cause bigger problems because it’s simply wrong.

When it comes to AI, I agree with the other non-native English speaker: using it to improve writing clarity is fine, but the idea and solution must be your own.

I completely agree with this post as I have noticed lately many posts just the way they are done seem very AI and it does not look good.   You can definitely tell when this happens.  AI is out there but don't use it for posts.  Also as mentioned searching the community or even Google should help with answers before asking common questions that take 10 seconds to find. 😉

Wholeheartedly agree @Madi.Cristil ! I don’t even use it to spell check...I just re-read several times...so if folks see something “off” in my posts, you’ll know why 🤣😂

Also: how does one learn to “communicate” effectively if they don’t practice writing professional articles? 🤔

Thank you for the statement @Madi.Cristil! I agree, you want to educate the community on your own experiences and also help if you should see a particular problem that may help someone in a similar situation.

Nice point of view Madi! AI is so helpful in some many ways, but it other  hand it could be very boring too.

Thanks for your position, statement and clarification.

This makes a lot of sense. AI is a great tool to support creation, but what really sets content apart is the human experience behind it. Real challenges, real decisions, things that worked (and didn’t), and lessons learned in the field are what truly help others grow. Using AI as an assistant is fine, but leading with personal insight and hands-on experience is what keeps the community authentic and valuable.

Thanks @Madi.Cristil

One solution is to provide a vlog along with your blog. I will try to do that more often. That way you can explain your blog post and also even add commentary, like “here I used ai to assist with the code” type of thing because obviously no one is going to avoid using AI like a tool (I have no where near enough brains to code anything other than Hello Geoff :) or some simple yaml files :) . If you don’t like doing videos you could record sound. Or you can just make tons of grammar and spelling mistakes, bad style, chunky paragraphs like me since there is no self respecting model in the world that would write like that. Just to think back in University all those professors telling me that my lazy lousy writing would never amount to anything!!! If only I had known back then I could have answered “but it will be my stamp for organically human department at some point in the future!!”

Totally agree if you don’t mean the content where it is used as a little help.

I use AI for the illustrations in the article and the titel illustration and for spellchecking and for that it is quite useful and i love the ai created illustrations to loosen up the technical content. So as a tool. Of course the content and the knowledge was researched, checked and created by me. And basically my content is triggered from questions and problems which I attend each week in my job and question which I ask myself or do get by friends and costumers and where I have to dive in deeper. Which is the fun part of it to challenge the question, the problem or to get more knowledge in a special part.

If AI is used as a tool to help it is good but if it used as a creation tool itself it isn’t working. It hallucinate, create wrong content and is not human and doesn’t check the content nor the technology logic. As a tool it can help a little and save some time, but to create a good article it takes hours to research, get the information, check and test it,. Speak with others about this topic, try to look over it from different views and of course from the it experience you get after some time in the it world. Than write it down and read it again and again, change it, read it again, before posting. And actually this whole thing is the fun part for me as well as look at a topic some month or years later and see if something changed in the software, architecture or the technology itself. Also the reactions, discussions and different views and experiences from others are the thing which keeps it alive and very useful. Because nobody can know and experience everything by himself. The sharing of the knowledge, views and experiences is the key.

And I guess for almost any content creator this is the same. Hopefully AI will never substitute this… than the fun will be gone as well as the experts, critics and technology leaders who will point to things, ask questions and give technology experts ideas. That’s what driving innovation and better products and technology. And of course that’s why we all love our job, even if it (like everything) can be quite challenging sometimes. ;-).

This then adds too much overhead to creating a blog post here, and I am sure many will not do it any more if they have to add these things to it.  Just my opinion on the subject.  😋

There has to be a way to validate things other than adding additional work to be able to create a blog.

Agree Chris. As I work in the Education industry, there are AI tools teachers use to know if papers written by students are AI-based. I’m sure the same can be done here. Sad it even has to be done tbh 😕

Absolutely spot on @Madi.Cristil. I have added a few points to the referenced post above based on a similar argument.

From experience, creating a quality article takes time and sometimes days. You refine, correct errors, save drafts, and often revisit them later with a clearer perspective. That process is hard due to the numerous steps and tests involved.

I understand the concern around AI-generated content. The real issue, however, isn’t AI itself. It is how it’s used. Mass-producing low-value, generic AI content like @MicoolPaul said can absolutely weaken site authority and may impact visibility in search engines over time. Sometimes, these contents/sites are even deindexed by search engines.

That said, using AI to enhance your own thinking, improving clarity, structure, and depth while staying true to your original ideas is incredibly powerful and, in my view, the right approach.

AI should support your expertise and this is in line with @lukas.k‘ comment. Let’s put in the effort, this way, your articles will gain visibility in AI overviews and get cited by other AI tools.

Search engines are very smart! They will do their job correctly
