Hi everyone,

Veeam Advisor v2.0 will be available tomorrow.

For anyone who hasn't come across it before, Veeam Advisor is a free browser-based tool that reads a VBR diagnostic log (VMC.log) and turns it into a health report you can actually read. It covers things like sizing, licensing, configuration reviews, best-practice checks, and a bunch of other useful information.

It's a single HTML file, so there's nothing to install, and all analysis happens locally in your browser.

What's new in v2.0?

@Dynamic Thanks for the suggestion about new color scheme, Ive gone with a more retro game vibe.

The biggest addition is a new Resiliency Map.

Upload a VMC log and it generates a visual view of your backup environment, showing backup jobs, repositories, and how data moves through backup copy jobs.

I originally built it because I wanted an easy way to answer questions like:

"Where does this backup actually end up?"

or

"Do we really have a second copy of everything?"

Seeing it as a diagram makes a lot of things obvious very quickly. Unused repositories, gaps in backup copy coverage, and even copy loops tend to stand out straight away.

Using real environment names

One challenge is that the log mostly contains IDs rather than friendly names, so the map can look a little anonymous by default.

To get around that, v2.0 includes an optional read-only PowerShell script. Run it on the VBR server, paste the output into the tool, and the map gets enriched with real job names, repository names, replica targets and other environment details.

During testing it even highlighted a replication job that was still pointing at a host that no longer existed.

That was a fun one to track down.

Repository drill-downs and exports

You can also click into any repository and see everything writing to it, which makes dependency checking much easier.

Once you're happy with the view, you can export it as:

  • PDF
  • PNG
  • SVG

Useful for documentation, audits, customer reports, or just explaining an environment to someone else.

Looking for feedback

The new features have had quite a bit of testing across different environments, including tenant deployments and Cloud Connect providers, and there's a full user guide included.

That said, real-world environments always find things labs don't.

If you manage Veeam environments, I'd appreciate you giving it a try and letting me know what you find. Feature requests, bugs, weird edge cases — they're all useful and help shape future releases.

Thanks to everyone who's provided feedback and testing so far. Looking forward to hearing what the community thinks of the new resiliency mapping feature.

Briefly tested the first iteration of this so looking forward to v2.  Sounds like some nice changes.
