Timothy Dewin’s Famous RPS Tool is now Deprecated

I have already used it today without knowing the other is deprecated.

A good thing is, that both „official“ calculators (vbo365 and now vbr) can be reached over this page:

What is missing in the official tool is the visualization of the restore points. Tim's tool was great if you needed to understand how retention policies were working; I've used it many time in workshops or if I needed to explain it to customers.

The controls are nice and clearly arranged in the official calculator. I think this is better and more clear than in Tim's tool.

But I agree with @regnor that the overview about the restore points was much better in Tim's tool.

Perhaps this will be a future addition to the official tool.

There’s currently not a home in the R&D forums for such requests as far as I’m aware is there?

@Rick Vanover is there a good Avenue to give feedback on the other tools etc that Veeam supply outside of the core paid for products?

I guess everyone using Veeam used this tool before. I really like the table of the full and incremental restore point. With it it was easy to explain a customer who (forever) incremental / with synthetic/active full works. I do not see this feature in the official version any more 

Yep I’d always export with the canvas option so I’ve got a PNG to share/annotate easily.

Yeah that was one of the best parts of this tool. Sad to see it not there now. 😞

Hey guys - this is a very good topic to discuss here. A few tings @JMeixner, @MicoolPaul and others on this:

• Tim has done an amazing job with this resource.  I think it’s fair to say that Tim’s blog hosted the most used social-share resource out there.
• We need to have these types of resources official-looking and standardized.
• Product Management was involved in the new version of the tool.
• There was also some fragmentation - Tim’s tool had things the official one didn’t - and reverse. 

But let met pique your interest above all that this gives a way to see what people want to do and paves the way for quick changes should new story logic be implemented. 

That being said - if there is some feedback to raise, bring it up and I’ll take to the owners!

imho must haves for new calc:

• chain breakdown/visualization. This just makes the output way more understandable and in some extent verifiable
• some way to export a calculation. The URL export was very handy in RPS/RPC

nice to have:

• immutable backups implications visualized and enforced when checked

These are really good suggestions

That is interesting for sure.  Hopefully based on suggestions they will update the new one.

I’d love to be able to try out the VBR one, unfortunately “Too Many Redirects” message from every browser, site and internet connection I’ve tried.

I've posted it to the R&D forums and update this topic when I receive a feedback.

Me too, you can use Veeam Support to create a support case for the veeam website to get the issue to the right audience. :-)
