Did you know that some tax-related data in Japan has to be accessible for 100 years? I say in theory because, discs break all the time, and the standard certainly doesn’t provide any tampering protection in the way of physical damage. And a multi-backup strategy is certainly still key for compliance, but it’s interesting to see an alternative to tape for long term offline retention. Will it ever catch on? I doubt it. But a good read all the same.
