Question

Migrating AHV backups to new repo

Hi team

I am tasked with implementing new repositories and I have to move backups and backup copy created by AHV. It seems that moving AHV backups is not supported with VEEAM move feature.

I wonder what the best options are here and what I need to be aware off?
The existing repo are configured to not use per machine-machine backup files.

The old repos will be decommissioned once all data has been migrated

Much appreciated

To me starting new would be easiest and letting the old age out.  Probably easier than figuring out moving.

Hi @gravelrider you are right Veeam Move Backup does not support AHV backups.

try this

  • Use Backup Copy Jobs to migrate AHV backups to the new repository.
  • Start new backups directly on the new repository.
  • Keep old repository online until retention requirements are met.
  • Manual file move is not supported and risky (especially without per-machine backup files).
  • if possible plan for extra storage during migration.
  • Decommission old repository only after all required restore points are copied or retention expires.

let us know hows going.

Hi @gravelrider -

I’m with Chris on this one...I’d just start your jobs fresh on the new Repo(s). Just keep your old ones around until you meet your Retention on the new Repos (if you’re able), then simply delete all those Backups and then clean up your old storage (Repos) as needed. It’s the simplest (aside from the Veeam Move function).

Best.

Thanks Team

Seems like the customer is happy with fresh approach and let it age out.
