I can´t connect on Veeam B&R Console after upgrade to version 13

When I try to connect on Veeam B&R Console after upgrade to version 13 it returns following message
“Failed to connect to the backup server: Access to the registry key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup abd Replication\Plugins\13.0.0\Console’ is denied”

I checked the registry and there is no values under 13.0.0\Console redistrib and 13.0.0\Platform Service, while under 12.0.0 I can see values like AWS, Azure, etc.
Could plugins installation fail?

Veeam B&R seems onlne, I can see backup job logs under 13 version.

When I run the .iso (upgrade file VeeamBackupReplication_13.0.1.1071_20251217) it says Veeam is already updated and does not permit me do anything.

Issue has been fixed with following steps.

  • Install VBR 13 settings a new MS SQL database name
  • Start VBR Console to check everything is fine
  • Using Configuration Database Connection Settings (located at Windows\All Programs\Veeeam) change MS SQL database name from new database created during installation to original database name.

All services on VBR are running correct?  I have seen this when some are not but typically not a registry error.

Also is the console on a remote machine or the VBR server?  Maybe uninstall and reinstall might help.

Hi, did the upgrade complete correctly?

@Chris.Childerhose all services are running well.

@Iams3le No, upgraded stopped requiring to remove an old Veeam agent (from old backup client), after remove it and try again, failed due lack of disk space, after release C:\ drive space it finished OK.

Uninstall and install VBR would lost the license and credentials?
Is there any way to backup them without having access to VBR console?

No it will remember these if you point to the same DB again.  No worries there.  Just seems like things are not clean.

So, @Chris.Childerhose unistall and install would be basically goes to Windows Add or Remove Program to remove Veeam , then install it via .iso file?

I uninstalled VBR and installed successfully Veeam Backup& Replication.

But, when I run the installation of Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager it fails on Database step with message “Failed to connect to PostgreSQL server localhost:5432. No connection could be made because target machine actively refused it”
That is with default Use existing instance (HOSTNAME:PORT) <servename>:5432 and Database name VeeamBackup
Changing to previous instance name <servername>\VEEAMSQL2016 and database name VeeamBackup, the error message is “Failed to connect to PostgreSQL server <servername>\VEEAMSQL2016. No such host is know.”

P.S. I just figured out it was using Microsoft SQL database. But, when I try it it says it can be used because DB was created on previous VBR version. I am going to remove VBR and install version 12, if it works I will upgrade later to 13.
Thanks

Sounds good.  Keep us posted but I am sure you will get it worked out.

Well, I could reinstall Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager version 13 but when I try to install Veeam Backup & Replication 13 the database checking fails with message “Unable to us database VeeamBackup, because it was created with a later version of Veeam Backup and Replication”
Why this message if this is the latest version available?

Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager is installed.
If I ran Configuration Database Connection Settings it validades connection to Microsoft SQL Server.
But, VBR 13 installation fails.

What ISO are you using?  This means the DB was updated to a later release compared to the ISO you are using for the installation.  They need to match.

VeeamBackup&Replication_13.0.1.1071_20251217.iso

Same ISO I tried the upgrade version 12 to 13.

Do you have anything configured in Veeam VBR?  I would suggest if not when prompted for the DB to add a “1” or something to the end of the DB name to create a new one.  Otherwise you will need to work through support to figure out what version your DB is at to match the ISO to use.  Did you try the 13.0.1.180 version to see?
