So i have a SQL server that wanted to have a backup of. Today i setup veeam BandR console on another machine with a portable ssd as repository. Right now i have the job running a full windows backup thinking in case i need to restore the whole server i can restort to a VM or another physical server is SQL-1 goes down ..correct? Now my job has appl aware on for SQL and trunking trans log. Would that be correct?  Or should i change to SQL veeam plugin and Windows Agent server edition instead of using console. Im looking at the fastest recovery process. Now im getting another server to mirror SQL-1 so would be   SQL-1  < < > > veeam console < < > > SQL-2  so the backup its just a precaution. Is it my current job correct? Thanks.

Hi @SGOMEZ

When you install Windows agent you can create a bare metal image to restart from scratch on another physical server. After this you are able to restore server at last restore point.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agentforwindows/userguide/howto_baremetal_recovery.html?ver=60

These steps are not needed if you restore as a VM.

Hi @SGOMEZ,

from your comment looks like that you have windows physical machine with SQL.

  1. Application aware processing is feature, which is backing up server within SQL. So you have backups in one, but restore process is independent. You can restore database, which  you need.
  1. Plugin for SQL is feature, which is independent form OS backup. So you can schedule backup in different time and retention is not matching retention period of OS backup.

So option one is fastes way, because if you have already job, you will backup as object protection group, where you will add always new server into protection group. Once server is in this protection group, automatically is backed up, you dont need to change anything.
