Security Patch for Veeam Backup & Replication: Update to Build 12.3.2.4165

Due to the following questions below, I have decided to create an article to show the steps on how to patch Veeam Backup and replication from build 12.3.2.3617 to 12.3.2.4165. 

To summarize the steps, you first have to determine the installed build. This can be found in the Veeam Backup & Replication Console’s Main Menu (≡) under Help > About as shown below.

I am already running on Build 12.3.2.3617.

This patch is available as an ISO or EXE. The EXE is intended ONLY for patching existing deployments of Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.2 (build 12.3.2.3617). When you try the ISO in this case, you will be prompted to modify or uninstall your existing installation of Veeam Backup and Replication which is a dangerous thing to do. Also, you can use the ISO for new deployments of Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.2.4165.

Download the EXE below. The update patch can be downloaded here.

 

 

Note: For upgrading existing deployments of VBR (11a, 12, 12.1, 12.2, 12.3.0, or 12.3.1) to 12.3.2.4165. You have to use the ISO as shown below. use the ISO below. 

 

 

 

Note: The ISO can be used for new deployment of VBR 12.3.2.4165.

 

Update Process

Launch the executable as shown below

Walk through the update process

Accept license

click on install 

We have successfully patched our VBR server

Reboot when promptd

Veeam Component Update

After the main update is installed, Veeam runs a Component Update process to ensure that all associated components across the environment are brought to the same version as the updated backup server.

I agree, but it will not work for this build 12.3.2.3617.

I agree, but it will not work for this build 12.3.2.3617.

Yes the ISO patch will work for this build.  There is two patch options - ISO or EXE

There seems to be a problem with the EM update. Using the ISO and exe patch did not upgrade EM, as verified from the web console.

 

If I use the full ISO, it says that all components are already updated to the latest version.

 

Using this command results in an update; it is a cosmetic bug.

The patch has a size of 660 MB. Only affected components will be updated. You can check the installation folder and see that only a few binaries are replaced by the patch. Or extract the content of the patch exe with 7zip to check which files will be patched.

However, I agree that it does look odd the old version is still listed. It can be confusing.

I found the .iso would not “upgrade” and only allow modify requiring an uninstall.  So I went to the .exe and all went fast and well.   One more thing is this vulnerability also affects windows agents, so why isn’t this update including the agent update install file to push via VBR?  I have to manually do the Agent install.

I performed the upgrade with the 1.6 GB patch ISO VeeamBackup&Replication_12.3.2.4165_20251006_patch.iso

However, I confirm that the installed version of Windows Agent Microsoft Windows is 6.3.2.1205.

The KB does not explicitly state that the VBR 12.3.2.4165 patch installer automatically updates all installed versions of ‘Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows’ to build 6.3.2.1302.

It is possible that the Agent needs to be updated separately or that the patch for VBR prompts you to manually update the Agent.

The upgrade is stable as we have been rolling it out this week other than the cosmetic version number differences nothing to be worried about.

Hi ​@Iams3le I got the clearance. Should I perform the upgrade? Is it stable? 

The upgrade is stable as we have been rolling it out this week other than the cosmetic version number differences nothing to be worried about.

When I go to KB4696: Release Information for Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3 there is no purple EXE or ISO link for me to use to initiate the download of the patch.  

I am logged in.

I have suspicion that it is because my account on Veeam does not have the licenses for the product.  We rent it from another vendor.  I am contacting them now.

Hello,

It was confirmed by my vendor support that the links only show up when a licensed user is logged in.  I am waiting for the service provider to send me the patch ISO since they have the license.
