A physical Linux server protected by a centrally managed Veeam agent is physically damaged.  An Amazon EC2 infrastructure is available, and the physical server is eligible for virtualization.  Which recovery step provides the lowest possible RTO?

  1. Use Bare Metal Restore to Amazon EC2 VM
  2. Use Instant Disk Recovery to Amazon EC2 VM
  3. Use Restore to Amazon EC2 VM
  4. Use Restore Guest Files to Amazon EC2 VM

(C) Use Restore to Amazon EC2 VM

A is out cause it will take the longest time, B is best suited for multi-disk restores for virtual machines and D is just wrong.

@ian.gatundu , B is wrong because you cannot perform Instant VM or Disk recovery to EC2 instances.

Ok everyone, below is the answer to this week’s VTT question…

We can eliminate 1 of the options straight away → Instant Recovery of any kind with Agent backups is not possible to either Azure or AWS, so we can disregard b. We don’t know the Backup Mode of the Job, but even so, D won’t work because the whole server has crashed, so a full server recovery is needed not just select files. The remaining 2 options a. and c. are left. Though Bare-metal Restore is possible, this would take longer than C. Restore to Amazon EC2 VM, so this is the correct answer.
