Latest Veeam Backup & Replication v13 introduces the Veeam Deployment Kit, a package used to enable certificate-based authentication.

Once installed on a target server, Veeam leverages the certificate for authentication instead of the traditional username and password.

This kit makes adding Windows to VBR seamless.  Great article Paolo 👍🏼

Its method is the only way to add windows machines into without v13 which are not domain joined. 
As part of v13 Kerberos or certificate authentication is

 

It’s recommended to Use the Deployment Kit if your environment does not support NTLM or Kerberos authentication.
