Hi all,

I’ve trawled the KB’s and internet on this but I've added a Wasabi Object storage to my Backup and Recovery console version 11.0.1.1261 to add as a cloud backup location and it doesn’t show when i go to do either a backup or a backup copy. In a lot of other posts it says i have to add it under a “scale out” repository but i don’t have the “scale out” option on there. It currently shows under my “backup repositories” as an S3-compatible type with all my other “windows” type backup locations but it doesn’t show me the location when i go to add it as a destination in the backup.

I did have this issue when setting up Office 365 backup but found i had to create the object storage and then a local storage pointing TO the Wasabi one and that worked but creating a local one in Backup and Recovery doesn’t give me the option to point it to the Object one like it did in Office 365 either.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Ian

Hi! In VBR v11, you can’t use an object storage repository directly as a target for backup or backup copy jobs. Instead, you need to create a Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR) and use the object storage as a capacity tier within the SOBR.

Since you mentioned that you don't see the SOBR option, please make sure you are using a version of VBR that supports Scale-out Backup Repositories (Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions).

To create a Scale-out Backup Repository, follow these steps:

1. Open the Backup Infrastructure view.

2. In the inventory pane, select Scale-out Repositories and click Add Scale-out Repository on the ribbon, or right-click Scale-out Repositories and select Add Scale-out Backup Repository.

3. Follow the New Scale-out Backup Repository wizard to configure the repository, adding your existing backup repositorie(s) as a performance extents and your Wasabi Object Storage as a capacity tier.

For more information on creating a Scale-out Backup Repository, refer to the Veeam Help Center: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/sobr_add.html?ver=120

Ah, that would be it. I don’t think we have the Enterprise version so would upgrading it to v12 resolve this ?

Thanks

You can check the version in the VBR console: General Menu > License, just to be sure. And with VBR v12 you can create regular backup jobs or backup copy jobs and use object storage as a target for them.

We have rental licences (as our server landscape changes a lot) so it doesn’t seem to show in there but yes, I'll get it updated to v12 as that seems like it might be the issue.

Thanks for that.

I’ve updated to V12 but although i can now add Object Storage and also choose it as a destination it says i need an Enterprise licence when i go to create the backup job however i am on a VUL licence which according to my supplier SHOULD allow me to do this.

My supplier has also tried to do this on their VUL licence (same V12) and they CAN point backup copies to the Object Storage ?

Any ideas or is this guaranteed to be a licence issue (but then why can they do it) ?

Thanks
