Veeam Endpoint Backup – Mac Machines Management Agent Not Connecting

Hi Experts,

I am facing an issue where the Veeam Management Agent is not connecting on Mac machines, showing a connection failure error.

In the same network environment, Windows and Linux machines are connecting successfully without any issues. The problem occurs only with macOS devices.

I have already checked the following:

  • No firewall blocks are present

  • Required ports 6180 and 443 are open

  • No antivirus or security software blocking communication

  • Other OS machines in the same network connect successfully

However, Mac machines alone are unable to connect

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or can suggest troubleshooting steps?

Regards,

Dhanapal

@Dhanapal.Kuppusamy  Since Windows and Linux agents are connecting successfully, this rules out any server side configuration issues. For macOS, connection failures are almost always related to OS security controls or agent trust. Please check for any antivirus, network level restrictions, and SSL trust issues as well.

I would recommend opening a case with Veeam Support to investigate this further.

Hi Expert,

Thank you for your response.

We have verified the environment, and there are no OS security controls or agent trust restrictions blocking the connection. All required permissions are allowed. Additionally, there is no antivirus installed on the macOS machine, no network-level restrictions in place, and SSL trust is properly configured.

But the issue is intermittent - sometimes the macOS agent connects successfully, and other times it has connectivity issues.

Dhanapal

@Dhanapal.Kuppusamy

Increase the handshake_timeout value in the config.cfg file for Veeam Agent for Mac.

For Mac, You can find the configuration file below:
/Library/Application Support/VeeamManagementAgent/config.cfg

Open the file with a text editor and locate the parameter “vcf_handshake_timeout”. Change the value to 120000 ms.

Save the file and restart the Mac.

This helps in environments where SSL negotiation or network latency causes the agent handshake to fail intermittently.

Hi @Mohamed Ali,

Thanks for the input and information. I have increased the vcf_handshake_timeout value to 120000 ms in the config.cfg file as suggested. After making the change and restarting the Mac, the Veeam Agent is now connecting successfully.

I will continue to monitor the behavior for the next week and share an update if I notice any further issues. Thank you for the guidance.

Dhanapal
