And here is your VTT VMCE question for the week. Please be sure to hide your comments and good luck!

A company’s infrastructure consists of multiple VMware servers that store VMs on local storage.  What proxy transport mode should be used to backup these VMs?

  1. Virtual appliance
  2. Direct Storage access

C and D are not even proxy transport modes. Direct storage access isn’t a valid choice for VMs stored on host local storage.

Ok, so let’s analyze/explain this week’s VTT question…

The options listed are all Veeam terms you should be quite familiar with as you prepare for the VMCE. Diret Storage Access is a possible correct option to this question, but the question has a constraint to it → each Host is using local storage. So though b. is a Transport Mode, it cannot be used with Host local storage. C. Snapshots are used by Veeam to take backups of workloads at a given point in time. This is not a Transport Mode. And d. is a Veeam feature which allows a persistent/non-persistent agent to be deployed to workloads. It’s not a Transport Mode. Thus, a. Virtual Appliance is the correct answer.
