Hey there everyone. Well, thanks to @Michael Funke , I have yet one more VMCE Practice Question to provide you all (thank you Michael!). 😊

For those new to the VMCE page, please hide your comment (guess). To do so → before typing your response, click the ellipsis (3 dots) icon on the far right of the format toolbar at the top in your comment box and select the Spoiler option. This will place a ‘hide comment’ text box in your comment box area. Click inside this hide comment text box and start typing your answer (guess). Be careful to not click outside of the box or your comment will show after saving. We want your comment to not show after clicking the Send button so others can take full advantage of these practice questions. Also, please no need to do a ‘quote’ comment of this question; I would like to keep these practice questions neat. Let me know if you have issues. Good luck on the question!

You are running Veeam Backup on a Windows Server with the installed version PostgreSQL DB (v15.12). You just received a CVE notification regarding a recent vulnerability found in this DB version. As such, to mitigate this threat you want to upgrade to v15.14. How can you accomplish this upgrade task?

  1. Wait until the next Veeam Backup & Replication version is released to upgrade the PostgreSQL database to the latest version
  2. Update the PostgreSQL database manually
  3. No action is required; embedded PostgreSQL databases are not affected by vulnerabilities
  4. Only update the database if the CVE score is above 8

This one I am not sure on I think its
A. Wait until the next Veeam Backup & Replication version is released to upgrade the PostgreSQL database to the latest version

  1. Update the PostgreSQL database manually

there’s no reason to wait, just check the system requirements for the latest compatible version, if it’s a serious enough CVE don't worry about compatibility, update anyway!

I would say (A), unless you are 100% sure that the update will not impact any Veeam programs.

Check to make sure the version is supported by VBR, then manually upgrade the database.

Good morning everyone. Below is the answer to this week’s Community VMCE Practice Question…

Let’s walk through each choice → though some of you chose a…..this is not correct. Reason is, when Veeam does come out with an update, the DB version is rarely upgraded; sometimes yes, but in my experience, mostly no. Choices c. and d. are just blatantly false, and hopefully obviously so. This leaves b. Update the PostgreSQL database manually as the correct answer. And Veeam even provides a KB on updating/upgrading the PSSQL DB. For further info/reading, see below URL:
