Hi, this is my first time posting on here - hoping to get some advice from the wonderful community!

I have been busy studying for the VMCE exam and I’m close to the point where I am ready to take the exam. I was doing some research into where/how I book the exam and I came across this on the Veeam website:

This is very unfortunate timing on my part, but I was wondering if anybody could tell me what is replacing this exam? Have I wasted months of my time prepping for an exam that is being retired? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

The new VMCSE will replace this one and the VMCA is going away too if not already.  Check here for things related - https://community.veeam.com/groups/vmce-study-hall-134

Thank you for your quick response. How will VMCSE differ from VMCE, are there any specific articles relating to the content? Additionally, according to the screenshot below, you have to hold a valid VMCE Certification before you can get the VMCSE Certification - how do people without the VMCE, get VMCSE get certified?

Hi @HughFinn -

The VMCE shouldn’t be retired from my understanding...and I “manage” the VMCE Study Hall page and have had Veeam Certification Business Manager on to discuss this. Maybe that message you received is solely for that version of VMCE, v12...since v13 will soon be out? The VMCE is not retiring, but the VMCA is & is transitioning to the VMCSE.

I did a webinar with the Veeam Certification Business Manager and a 3rd party training company that helps with Veeam courses a few months back. You can catch that video at the link below:

Let me know if you need further info.

Thanks @coolsport00 , that is a relief, and makes complete sense!

No problem @HughFinn

Also..to answer your above question:
“how do people without the VMCE, get VMCSE get certified?” You can’t. You have to have the VMCE to get the VMCSE certification. Now...you can take & pass the VMCSE without the VMCE (I think?), but you won’t be officially recognized as VMCSE certified by Veeam. It’s all still pretty new and hasn’t even been fully implemented yet Hugh. They may have Pearson set up to where if you don’t have a VMCE on record you won’t be able to even schedule the VMCSE. Final details on how it will all work is still being hashed out, although I think will be implemented “soon” (this or next month maybe?).

Best.

looking forward to another new certification of Veeam Backup and replication.

Thanks again @coolsport00 . I’ve one more question (I’ll not go too far into a tangent): Can you take the VMCE Exam without taking the training course, or is the training course mandatory, to get your first certification?

This new one has Veeam ONE and Recovery Orchestrator as part of the certificate now along with the standard B&R stuff.  Veeam University Pro had a special on for training.

@HughFinn -

You should be able to take the exam...yes. Currently, I’m about 98% positive you can take the exam without the course. But, Veeam will not recognize your certification (provide you a digital certificate, etc) without meeting all the requirements listed in their certification page:

https://www.veeam.com/support/training/vmce-certification.html

But, if you’ve had some previous version course and have kept up with your VMCEs, no...you don’t need to take the new class when each new Veeam VMCE version is released. Let me know if that makes sense or not.

Thank you for the information - probably best to meet the requirements!

Glad to help.
