Veeam VMCE Exam registration

When is the deadline for scheduling my Veeam VMCE exam?

I understand that I can take the exam until the 31st, but I have a problem. I hope you can make an exception. Let me explain.

There are brand ATCs that have their schedules already set (even before the announcement of the end of certification) with some courses scheduled for December 15.

In order to schedule my exam, I need to have taken the course. But if I can't schedule the exam after December 1 and I've already signed up for an ATC class on December 15, I won't be able to take the course.

They could lift either:

  • the restriction on taking the course to schedule the exam,
  • Or the December 1 deadline for scheduling the exam, considering that some ATCs already had their schedules set and customers already had appointments.

@Franco Fernandez -

The exam seems to be being retired after 31 Dec of this yr. This is a ‘recent’ development. I will be learning more about the details at a small conference I’m at this week. I’ll try to share more as I find out the details.

Best.

It’s my understanding that we should be expecting v13 release pretty much any week now so there may not be any point in even doing the current VMCE. If you’re already booked it might be best to talk to the training centre and see what they say, they would know more than anyone else.

Of course, it's not something “new,” but it could be important enough to lift the restriction.

I'm not saying they should extend the time to take the exam, which is until December 31.

Rather, I'm saying they should extend the time to register for the exam, because if someone takes the VMCE course on December 15, they could still take their exam if it were allowed. However, currently, they would not be able to because, of course, appointments can only be made until December 1 (and to make an appointment, I need to have taken a course).

My problem is not the December 31 date, but the inability to schedule an appointment in the case of someone who cannot take a course prior to December 15, for example, and who wants to become certified.

For example a solution, to be able to schedule the test, without having a course already taken, so the person can take that course and still be able to take his exam before the december 31

Ah, ok...I understand what you’re saying now @Franco Fernandez . I needed more context. I will pass along your request, but not sure much..if anything, can be done. I’ll try and let you know soon though.

Best.

@Franco Fernandez I would suggest that you directly contact vmce@veeam.com and see if the team can provide you any support on that.

@Franco Fernandez -

Max has a good point about contacting the Veeam Certification team directly. Though I am still going to reach out to the Certification Business Manager here at this conference, she wouldn’t be able to do too much here, so your best bet is to contact Veeam directly. Depending on the region your located, you can email them based on the address below:

Another option (and which may be better), is to just call them directly. I found a number at the bottom of the Veeam cert site/page which is probably better to do so there’s nothing ‘lost in translation’ which can happen with communication via email. Try calling them at: 800-222-508, 8a-5p CEST.

Let us know what you found out.

Best.

Hi @Franco Fernandez

The VMCE exam can be taken until December 31, but the deadline to schedule is December 1.

This is due to Pearson VUE booking policies and Veeam’s certification retirement timeline. If your ATC course is after December 1, the best option is to contact Veeam Certification Support (vmce@veeam.com) or your ATC directly they may assist with exceptions or alternative arrangements.

Hallo everybody,

I just finished my VMCE course, and I want to register for the exam! The question is, when can I register, and is there a deadline for registration? Can I also take the exam on the weekend?

Best Regards

Omar

Hi @OHM -

As soon as your Veeam Certification account shows you’ve done the course on veeam.com, you can schedule the VMCE exam. I believe you have until 31 Dec to schedule it. When signed into the certification area of veeam.com, you’ll see the below notificatiobn of the VMCE expiry:

Though it doesn’t say explicitly, I assume this means you have to have taken the exam by 31 Dec. If you take it by then & don’t pass, and the required alotted time to be able to reschedule is beyond 31 Dec to re-attempt the exam, I don’t think you’ll be able to. So, if you do take the exam by then..make sure you pass.

Hi

I’ll make a post, but just FYI for this small group:

  • VMCE v12 exam will be retired on December 31.
  • The last day to book the exam is December 30, but keep in mind Pearson VUE may have difficulty accommodating last-minute registrations.
  • There will be no VMCE v13: the exam is being phased out.
  • The Veeam Backup & Replication training will be one of the required courses for the new certification launching in 2026.

Hi Federica. I have completed the Veeam B&R training and was going to book the VMCE Exam but have decided it might be best to hold off, due to these developments. Is there any news on what is replacing the VMCE exam? My assumption is something like a Veeam Data Platform exam, but will this mean that more than one course is required to be allowed to take whatever the replacement exam is? Is there any other information on the replacement courses/exams? I’m a little bit concerned as I’m under a bit of pressure from my organisation, to take the exam (after completing the course), but I’d prefer to do it the most practical way.

Hi @HughFinn -

I can help a little bit here. If you want to take your VMCE for v12, you can. It’ll still be valid...for v12 only. If your org is still running v12 and don’t plan to migrate anytime soon (I would recommend against it for now), this should satisfy your org imo.

For VDP v13, both VMCE and VMCA are going away. And, to answer your question..yes, at the start, to attain the new “VMCE” certification, which will now be called VMCE-E, you will need to take the 3 pre-requisite courses → the one for VDP (VBR) v13; VONE v13; and VRO v13. Once you take the courses, then pass the 3 exams, 1 for each course, you will then have attained your VMCE-E. Even if you have a current VMCE, you will need to take the 3 courses. Now, for subsequent certification versions, my assumption is Veeam will honor a current VMCE-E so you don’t have to take all 3 courses to recertify as is currently (or formerly). Currently, as long as you have a current up-to-date VMCE version, you don’t need to take any course. Because VDP v13 is so different, requiring the courses from the get-go makes sense imo.

The certification replacing the VMCA moving forward will now be the VMCSE. To attain this certification, you must have your VMCE-E, then take the Veeam Security course and pass the Veeam Security exam. Once you taken & passed this course/exam, you will then receive your VMCSE.

Hope that helps.

Best.

Thank you for your response. Does this mean you will only be certified if you have done all three exams? Will I not get any form of certification if I only take the VDP exam? We do not plan to move to the new version yet, but my organisation has already spent a lot of money to send me on the VMCE course. Veeeam are essentially tripling the costs for somebody to get certified, which seems a little excessive. If I got certified for VDP, that would at least justify the spend we’ve made so far!

As I shared above...no; you can still take the VMCE exam for v12..until 31 Dec (registration up till 30 Dec I believe). No...the certification doesn’t expire on 31 Dec. It never expires. The exam is being phased out. There is no VMCE for v13, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be certified for v12. It will still be valid.

Yes...Veeam is requiring 2 extra (3 total) courses for the new v13 certification, but as I explained above, I am in agreement with this because of the significant design change with v13. It’s just needed. Moving fwd no...you won’t have to continue taking all 3 courses to get..say...v14 certified (I assume it’ll be this way; nothing definitive as of yet as it’s all still new, but that’s how it’s been up to this point). BTW..VDP is not just v13. They changed the VBR name to VDP for v12 as well. And all that’s required (& available) for VDP v12 is just the VBR Configure course. So, if you took the VBR v12 course, and take the v12 VMCE & pass you will be certified and it won’t expire at the end of the yr.
