XFS is the recommended FS to use. But for all sys requirements & limitations, you can review the User Guide here

I couldn't see in the Repo requirements any FS not supported, other than exFAT on Windows Repose. So I assume any mature Linux FS would suffice (ext4, for example).

Do not use XFS nowadays is about losing space.
I really recommend you to use this kind of filesystem to enable fast cloning on Veeam and enjoy the facility of synthetic fulls to save space on your repository.

Is RHEL obligatory on your company?

XFS is supported in RH v7 @yasmine-boudhina , as per RH documentation

You can use XFS on rhel 7 but you could have some surprises with fastclone (synthetic full) according to veeam doc.
