Backup for M365 7a BUILD P20240418 - improvements

Hi all, just a small heads up for the latest patch P20240418 released on April 24th.This patch fixes several issues we’ve faced consuming the API via our management platform:On product builds 7.0.0.3604 and higher, processing REST API requests to retrieve the organization’s objects takes more time than expected. (GET) v7/Organizations/{organizationId}/Users (GET) /v7/Organizations/{organizationId}/Teams (GET) /v7/Organizations/{organizationId}/Sites, Export to .PST via the (POST) /v7/RestoreSessions/{restoreSessionId}/organization/exportToPst request takes more time compared to the save operation performed on the same mailbox backup data. If one of the requested repositories is in the Invalid state, the (GET) /v7/Organizations/{organizationId}/usedRepositories request mistakenly returns the same error for all repositories from the scope.  But also other improvements and enhanchements are in this release.Worth upgrading !More info ? https://www.veeam.com/kb4533

Tips from exam takers

Hi all,I took the VMCA 2024 exam this week and passed.My exam was NOT based on one central scenario but each question got a small introduction, setting the scene description of an environment, company,…And then based on this description you got your question.Other thoughts: Learn the details: some questions are really into details of functionality. Without studying, these questions are hard if you’re not confronted with them in your day to day interaction with Veeam prodcuts. The Rasmus’ videos are very helpfull. Altough they’re getting outdated (direct to object storage was not possible yet during these videos) Use ‘reverse logic’ and decimate the answers of the multiple choice that you think are totally wrong in this case. It makes it easier to make a selection of correct answers.

Extract data from backup in S3 Object storage created by Windows endpoint backup

Hi all,A user formatted his laptop as revenge to his company, but a valid endpoint backup was taken using Endpoint agent backup for workstation to a dedicated S3 object storage bucket.So we’re out of meta-data but should have 7 valid backup points in Object Storage. Now I want to get FLR from this backup with minimum effort, so I was thinking of adding the Repo in an Existing VBR 12.1 and import the backups from there.Attaching the bucket: no problemSyncing the repo: no problemImporting backups from the bucket: problem :-( I get the message: Failed to synchronize Object Storage <Object Name> Folder does not exist.Anybody tried this before ? Another path could be to install the Endpoint agent on a donor machine and try to connect from to the repo and perform restores…

VUG BeLux in-person: the day after...

Reflecting on a great VUG Belgium in-person event yesterday!We covered a spectrum of captivating topics, and had good discussions with our enthusiastic participants. A heartfelt thanks to Exagrid for sponsoring a delightful evening dinner, adding the perfect touch to a day filled with news about V12.1, SureBackup and some fun facts about the history of Veeam 🚀This event showed the strength of our collective knowledge and collaboration. Hey immutable repo ISO, do you just ruined my portable drive ?

Hi everybody. I’ve put a small blogpost togethers about an issue I experienced last week with the all-in-one ISO to create a hardenened immutable repo. This ISO was GA’ed during VeeamOn during the session of @Rick Vanover@HannesK  and Christoph Meyer. (more info here ) It seems that the script is too eager to reinitialise all disks during the setup. QNAP QuObjects no longer on HCL as object backup target ?

Hi all,I was checking the HCL list on QNAP QuObject devices and in the past you could find them at: https://www.veeam.com/sys469 but this now throws a 404…So checking the HCL didn’t show any Qnap devices.Aren’t they supported anymore with the QuObjects to provide local S3 compatible storage with optional immutability?   Some months ago we had a list like:

VeeamVssHwSnapshotProviderSvc.msi with VeeamVssProviderSvc does not work on Win10.

Hi all,During the upgrade to V12 for several of our customers we received an error where we couldn’t upgrade all the components.VeeamVssHwSnapshotProviderSvc.msi with Veeam VSS Hardware Provider Service (VeeamVssProviderSvc) service inside does not work on client Windows 10 A short workaround on this: Connect to the database and perform the following statement (of course, take a backup of your database first!)delete from [dbo].[HostComponents] where id = '8A3F9C13-90F3-4B1C-A2A7-C82E6AB66E0F'  It seems that not all Windows 10 installations are facing this problem. We’ll try to figure out of certain builds are involved in this. On the other hand, a fresh v12 install in Win10 works without any problems.

2023 Veeam Innovation Awards: next steps ?

Hi all, anybody knows the process / next steps wrt the 2023 Veeam innovation awards ? We’ve submitted our project for web based management of multi tenancy VBO environments for Cloud Aggregators, Resellers, Integrators and Sysadmins on their own existing infrastructure. Is there a second round to present the case ?  Until now we only could submit a very brief description.

Hi all, most of us know the powerfull Remove-VBOEntityData cmdlet to remove objects from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 repo’s. I’ve been checking documentation and the swagger, but didn’t find any API alternative. Anybody already succeeded in calling this function via API ?
