kubectl versions, don't get out of step

Hi Folks, A new version of kasten came out 5.5.7 so I wanted to take a look. For this I decided to pull out my old desktop and use rancher desktop. I also updated my k3s version in Rancher Desktop to 1.25.7After installing I wanted to create a token as is the method now for access if using token authentication but got and error:Error  This was a classic example of the kubectl binary being too far behind:So then I tried to update it but none of the methods would work. I will admit you can get confused when you hop around operating systems and different ways of install kubeclusters. I reliased that I had also installed kubectl  on this desktop by leveraging chocolatey. So time to upgrade.  Ok looks good:version I can now create a token: Token

The Examples are back, this time for Transform Sets

Hi Everyone, Just a quick note. I was a bit disappointed when the examples from transforms disappeared in one of the previous K10 versions, at same time a transform sets arrived. However, upon installing the latest version today I see this beautiful long list of examples in a tab next to Transformsets. I don’t think it was there before so if this is a new addon the great job to the folks at Kasten. It helps a lot when there are some examples in there!

Kube Vanguard (Temporary) Garage Sale Video Setup! Introducing the Kasten Documentation Series!

Hey Folks, I am slowly but surely re-building my video setup. Next week I purchase real lighting! After that time to replace my 10 year old HD web cam. (Any suggestions on good money/quality/value) will be appreciated. This week I am starting a new series. A run through the Kasten Documentation Series! Why because we all love documentation right? I know that all of you after work on a Friday evening can’t wait to get home, open an orange juice and plunge in to the passionate world of IT documentation! Well perhaps not that much but either way it can be fun. In this series I will go through and try to point out interesting things and do “quick” mini explanations of some of the concepts behind what is being documented. At the same time I will try to evolve this video setup!

Kasten and Rancher Desktop (or anything else that sets default version)

Hi Everyone, I had someone come to me with an issue this week that was simple to solve but in the haste of troubleshooting could be missed. Remember if you are using Rancher Desktop or any other mini distribution that automatically sets Kubernetes version, always set the version back a bit. The mini distributions tend to move up the chain pretty quickly whereas software, like Kasten has to go through testing and Q/A. The developer in question had set up some postgresql databases and wanted to back up their work. The backup was getting stuck and never completing with hardly any information in the logs. I bet $20 I could fix it in 30 seconds :) and I won. My steps:Go to file menu in Rancher Desktop then Preferences​​​​​​​PreferencesNext head down to Kubernetes and change the version number, in this case I moved it back to 1.25.9 since the version was not going to make any difference for the testing that they were doing:version​​​​​ After that the backup was fine.

Rancher 2.7.2 is out

Hi Folks, Check out this New Stack article about Rancher 2.7.2. Some important points, they are re-launching the Rancher Academy. I did these courses and free certs a few years ago and they were very good and not your common cake walk, well worth your time. I have not looked at all of these new extensions etc and really only use Rancher Desktop and K3S, not RKE and Rancher per say but will try to wade through and maybe pop in some posts if time and effort allows. https://thenewstack.io/suse-unveils-rancher-2-7-2-enhanced-kubernetes-management/

K10 6.0.6 OIDC Refresh Tokens are here!

Hi Everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. K10 6.0.6 came out yesterday and they have now introduced support for OIDC refresh tokens. I know there were a number of people here asking about as  it was a problem getting constantly kicked out of the dashboard. https://docs.kasten.io/latest/releasenotes.html Support for OIDC refresh tokens has been introduced. This feature can be disabled using the new auth.oidcAuth.refreshTokenSupport helm flag. Added a new helm flag, auth.oidcAuth.sessionDuration to manage the session duration within the K10 UI.

Dockershim will be gone soon.

Is your cluster ready for v1.24?

1.24 is on the horizon! Here are some things to review in the links below. Name change or something different Redhat Openshift Local?

Hi Folks, I have just downloaded the new Openshift local that is replacing Code Ready Containers at RedHat. This came out in May but May was a busy Month so I slept through this somehow. I will take a look. They claim it has been streamlined.
