If it’s a question from the exam, I guess the answer to fulfill all the requirements is Replica From backups: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/replica_from_backup.html?ver=120😅 In real life, the answer is to get rid of stupid limits and accept to do both replica and backups on the same pipe, and increase it if needed. that was my idea as well, i.e. source the replication from backup jobs. You would be surprised though how many times I had to set this up for customers back in the day because they did not want to increase the pipe. Mind you things may be changing as Data Protection is getting a lot more attention due to ransomware. At least hopefully they are changing 😀!

Red Hat Summit 2024

Big time envy here 😁! The Red Hat Summit I have heard is fantastic! While you are there can you please ask around about the local (on your laptop stuff) and what plans they have going forward. The last one that I have played around with Openshift Local (they keep changing the name of their test distributions so that might have changed already 🤣, although this page still exists https://developers.redhat.com/products/openshift-local/overview. The problem was that Openshift uses a lot of operators by default so for example I was never able to get Kasten running unlike on the RIP Tanzu Community Edition. Personally I love Openshift and saw it as the most complete distribution out there so would love to do more on it. I guess the other question on everyone’s mind is Terraform + Ansible? Please keep us informed of what is happening in the RedHat world. Have a great time! Oh and a swag report would be cool too 🤣!

yeah I mean just today in my Linkedin inbox.. “sponsored” Hi Geoff.. great to meet you!!! I have reviewed your profile and you seem to be a perfect fit for our Aws Architect position” WTF!!! I am an uber newbie in AWS, I mean yes if you want yours systems to test disaster recovery then by all means call me in and I will gladly create a disaster unwillingly :) Those are the ones that make you scratch your head - did they even read my profile? I ignore all those ones and delete them immediately. Must be a quota system or something. I once got one stating “we are looking for young people like you” I have to admit the flattery almost worked until I realized that this must be some moron AI template at work.

Just to comment on the “shy” part. Remember not everyone wants huge exposure like the Veeam Vanguards get. Privacy is getting harder and harder to maintain and for those of us who choose to show our faces on web pages with bios we know that there is a cost to that, i.e. imbecilic messages from recruiters constantly filling up the inbox among others. So a person may not be shy in person but simply does not want their face plastered all over the internet. Mind you the younger generation are probably immune to that 🤣 given all the Instagram, Facebook etc stuff.

I love this @Geoff Burke !!! That so funny! Just remember that piece of paper sometimes is the one which make the difference between you and your competitor or the difference of you as a candidate in an interview, so it also has value as a differentiator in the market! It is your stamp of quality! :) Can’t wait to see the rest of interview! I loved the idea! I completely agree @Federica . The other argument that I like to use, is that we as human beings have to set some kind of measurability to things. Nothing is perfect and there are always room for errors but we must set standards otherwise there is chaos. When it comes to certifications and degrees I ask the question “would you go to a person claiming to be a doctor, i.e. trust your health with someone who has no medical degree?” If the person says yes then good luck. Again no one claims that someone with a VMCA will not make mistakes, or that they are always better than someone without that certification, but you will at least

Hi vCrhis, That is a good point you bring up. My other concern when Veeam is not aware is because I once had a major issue with something similar, i.e. background replication taking place and Veeam not being aware of the replication. When it came time to restore we had big issues. Don’t want to name the vendors involved :) or the setup which was not great. Again this was a one of situation and I have not seen some of the other solutions out there which people tell me work well. Either way keep these ideas coming as I am relaying back. In fact I am going to ask internally here again about this and see if it has been thought about and will get back to you. cheers

I’m wondering...any way to have a geo-cluster with that ? Two sites replicated as with ECS or RING ? Or is it in the pipe ? If you bring us that...That would be marvelous and really easy to push everywhere :) Hi vChris, I don’t see this right now. One of the main ideas behind Ootbie is to keep it as lean and mean as possible, not just for performance but also for minimizing the attack surface. By leveraging the 3 2 1 rule you will have redundant data and Veeam will be aware of where the backups reside.
