Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1 is now available, bringing more than 70 new features and enhancements. This release extends protection to the identity layer with new capabilities for Microsoft Entra ID protection and Active Directory Forest recovery. It also expands malware detection across additional workloads and platforms, including unstructured data, Azure VMs, Sangfor aSV, Citrix XenServer, XCP-ng, Platform 9, VergeOS, Veeam Agent for AIX and Veeam Agent for Solaris. In addition, Veeam Intelligence continues to evolve with an enhanced Backup Admin Agent experience, support case integration and the ability to execute approved actions.

Key Features include:

  • Automated Active Directory Forest Recovery through a guided wizard that supports single-domain, multi-domain and multi-tree Active Directory forests
  • Extended Microsoft Entra ID protection to Organization Contacts, device objects, and BitLocker recovery keys.
  • Persistent original ID preservation when restoring Entra ID objects allowing relationships to be preserved and reconstructed during restore operations
  • RBAC Support for Entra ID allowing administrators to grant granular role-scope permissions that govern who can configure, run backup jobs, and perform restores
  • Backup and restore capabilities for Sangfor aSV, including Change Block Tracking (CBT), backup scan, entire VM recovery, instant recovery, disk mount, file restore, export and Veeam Explorers for application items.
  • KubeVirt Proxy for virtualization plug-ins providing a management interface for KubeVirt-based hypervisors.
  • Universal Hypervisor API giving hypervisor vendors an industry path to Veeam compatibility
  • Nutanix AHV capabilities including extended support in the Web UI, RBAC support, instant disk recovery and more
  • Proxmox VE support for VM replication, Instant VM recovery, VLAN tagging, extended Web UI coverage, RBAC support, plus more
  • Integrated deployment of the HPE VM Essential plug-in simplifying setup. Application- aware image processing support along with VirtIO driver injection during restore
  • Integrated deployment for RedHat Virtualization (oVirt KVM) and Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager OLVM (oVirt KVM), with additional storage optimization settings for backup jobs
  • Full support for Citrix XenServer, XCP-ng, Platform 9, and Citrix VergeOS including Change Block Tracking (CBT), backup scan, entire VM restore, instant recovery, disk mount, file-level restore, Veeam explorers and backup export.
  • Veeam Data Cloud Vault support through the Veeam AWS appliances and/or Microsoft Azure appliances
  • Support for the AWS cloud backup appliance to be deployed in AWS China Region
  • Malware detection for Azure VM backups
  • Veeam Backup for Google Cloud now supports immutable Google storage as a backup repository
  • Direct Agent Backups to Veeam Data Cloud Vault and Microsoft Azure Blob storage including unmanaged and managed agent jobs
  • Agent management capabilities are expanded in the Web UI
  • Veeam Agent for Windows support for remote bare-metal recovery and agent UI branding with customization capabilities
  • Centralized management for nosnap Veeam Agent for Linux
  • Malware detection for AIX and Solaris backups
  • Universal Continuous Data Protection support for Linux workloads
  • Malware detection for unstructured data workloads
  • Threat Hunter support for file share and object storage backups
  • NEW Application Backup Repository that transforms local storage into a managed pool of virtual volumes, each exposed as an NFS target
  • NEW Veeam Snap Scale Backup for Enterprise Applications allowing snapshots to be created for applications using the Veeam Universal Storage API (USAPI)
  • Protection for Epic EHR Systems running on InterSystems IRIS Data Platform through the new Veeam Snap Scale Backup for Enterprise Applications backup method
  • NEW Enterprise Application plug-in for IBM Db2 on Windows providing native backup capabilities
  • Restore Amazon RDS for SQL Server backups to on premises with the Veeam Explorer for SQL Server
  • Extended support for Oracle databases, including Oracle Database 26ai support through the Oracle RMAN plug-in and support for HA, DR, and Engineered systems coverage
  • Veeam Explorer for PostgreSQL support with application-aware image processing
  • Built-in entropy event investigation
  • Hybrid FIPS + Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) processing for handshake and key exchange, while retaining FIPS-certified AES for data encryption
  • Improvements to the Veeam Software Appliance and Veeam Infrastructure Appliance including further security hardening, flexibility and other general improvements
  • Veeam ONE Alarm Overview integration within the Web UI and Client with dedicated panel
  • Expanded language support in the Web UI for Japanese, French and German
  • REST API coverage for RBAC, malware detection, High Availability, deduplication repositories and backup operations
  • PowerShell support for EPIC EHR protection, enabling scripting and automation of required components deployment

Veeam Intelligence

  • Experienced Backup Admin Agent to help investigate jobs using natural language and analysis
  • Support case integration for reviewing existing cases, adding comments and attaching relevant data
  • Execute approved operational tasks including job control, infrastructure maintenance operations, component updates, and more through Veeam Intelligence

Updating my VSA now been a couple of hours so far and hopefully the update is still working as it is difficult to tell.  Hoping not to bork my VSA and have to restore it. 🤣

Thanks for the features overview Kirsten! Do you know the future for XCP-ng and Replication? It was pretty quick for Proxmox so just curious. Maybe we’ll find out in Oct? 😏

I do not have specific details, but from past experience I would think they would want to have feature parity across platforms, so more to come!
