Veeam Windows Agent 13 to Cloud Connect

Hi,

We have a client which has Veeam Windows Agent free edition version 13 installed. The agent back up to a local USB disk. Now the client would like to have a second job to back up to our Veeam Cloud Connect console.

However we still have VSPC version 8.1.0.21999 installed and our Cloud Connect Server is at level 12.3.3

I know ideally we should upgrade our infrastructure to version 13 and also the VSPC console.

 

Question is: 

Is it possible to add the client with the new Windows agent to our VSPC without needing to downgrade the Window agent? 

Ideally I’d like to install the management agent to the client laptop and use the already installed Windows agent which converts to a license version and install the second job to back up to the data center.

I don’t like the idea to upgrade the infrastructure in a rush for that client.

Not possible. v13 Agent requires a v13 Cloud Connect Server.
Please upgrade your environment. Downgrading the agent is not supported for the existing backup files on the USB disk. You won’t be able to continue this backup chain.

    The cloud connect guide (Veeam Product Versions - Veeam Backup & Replication Veeam Cloud Connect Guide) shows that Veeam Agent for Windows 6.0 and later is supported for CloudConnect 12.x

    On the same page:

    The SP Veeam backup server can run the same or later version of Veeam Backup & Replication than the tenant Veeam backup server. The SP backup server cannot run an earlier version of Veeam Backup & Replication than the tenant backup server.

    This applies to major product versions. Within Veeam Backup & Replication version 12, the SP and tenant can use any product build. For example, tenants who have upgraded to Veeam Backup & Replication 12.2 can work with the SP who runs Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1.2 on the SP backup server, and vice versa. It is recommended, however, that the SP and tenant install latest hotfixes and updates on the backup server.

    I am not sure if this applies to standalone agents as well. But it would make sense. 

     

    But let’s be honest - I suggest to upgrade the infrastructure. You will have a lot of clients upgrading to v13 in the next few months, so you as a service provider should also be ready :)

    Upgrade the VSPC first, then the VCC server.

        ​@tm67 thanks so for my situation it would work as I understand your reply? 

        I know, we are going to upgrade, there is also soon a VBR 13.1 coming out I think.

          No, as ​@Mildur pointed out it is not supported. So my thoughts were correct. You cannot have a new v13 agent with a v12 CloudConnect.

            In order to back up a window agent to two different locations. You need to have a veeam server lic, you can't use a workstation lic.
