With Veeam v13, will this allow us to migrate from our Veeam Windows-based environment (B&R manager, proxy, gateway, repository, etc...) to a Veeam Linux-based environment, if this migration process takes several months?
They announced v13 at VeeamON but I did not hear this. I am hoping that they will have this migration path myself as I would love to migrate off Windows over to the Appliance for the main VBR server. The Proxies, Repos, etc. will use the Veeam JEOS to deploy which I will look to do with Terraform/Ansible to replace existing servers that are on Windows - mainly Proxies here. Repos will be another scenario.
I am going to tune in Wednesday to see if there are some demos and more mention of a migration path.
As dar as I got told from Veeam there will be no direct migration path yet from VBR on Windows to VBR Linux appliance. The structure of the config backup might be different since Postgres on Windows is slightly different than on Linux.
You will be able to upgrade from v12 to v13 on Windows but not to Linux yet.
My concern is being able maintain data protection as we introduce the Linux VBR appliances and begin the migration over to them, utilizing the same StoreOnce repositories.
I am sure by the time GA comes there will be a migration path. If not I will wait on the installer to upgrade my current Windows VBR servers, take a configuration backup and then restore that to the appliance in migration mode.
I got an update from Rick and the team: There will be no migration path for the first version auf die VBR appliance. For future releases there is a roadmap.
The implementation of the first release has to be done manually.
As expected: Migration onto Windows VBR from earlier versions is not a problem.
