We have provisioned VBR in production, tecnically with compute and storage. Can we replicate the recovery points from prod VBR to VBR dr? In dr, we will provion as well VBR dr resources.

upon checking with veeam, they can replicate in the dr but the source is the vcenter prod as well, meaning 1vbr is enough as long as they vcenter in dr. Thanks

Recovery Points are not replicated,

You can use a Backup Copy Job to copy Restore Points to the DR site.

On the VBR server in the DR site, you can add the same folder as a backup repo and import the backups for doing restores in a DR scenario.

If you want to replicate the vms to the dr site vsphere environment, then you can do that directly within one vbr server. It would be best to have a Veeam Proxy in the DR site to optimize the replication performance.
For replication of a vm, you can choose a standalone esxi server as a target (or source). You don‘t need a vcenter at the dr site for that. But you can, if you want.

Replication from  already copied restore points in the DR site is possible too:

Noted,,, so technically the high level will be like this, from VBR prod to VBR dr. Thanks

That should work.

You can leverage the already copied off site backups to create a vm replica. The replica will have always the state of the last restore point. If you need lower RPO, then replica from the source vm would be better or you have to copy restore points more often to the disaster recovery location.

If the replica is only needed once or twice a day, Replica from Backup is a good solution.

Yes clear on this, but the requirement should be able to replicate from VBR disk prod going to VBR dr, which is via "Backup Copy Job", right?  :)

I would’t use the word replicate for that. :)  Because in veeam terms, replication is reffering to vm replication.

Replicate: Replicating a VM to another Hypervisor

Backup Copy: Copying the Restore Point to a secondary Backup Repository.

But you are right. It is a backup copy Job.

You copy the restore points to a storage in the DR Site. You need to add this location to the secondary VBR server in the DR Site. Then, you can import the backup files. You can do restores that way.

But Replica from this imported restore point will not work. That’s a limitation. Let the primary vbr server to the replication. It’s better.

Replica from Backup - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)

  • Replica from backup cannot use imported backups. However, there might be a situation when you need to use backups created on another backup server. In this case, use the instructions provided in Using Backups Created on Crashed Backup Server. Note that the backup server from which you import backups must not operate anymore, otherwise replica from backup may behave in an unexpected way.
